Your role and responsibilities

We are delighted to offer you a great opportunity to join Suffolk County Council's Finance Team as a Senior Accountant. We are seeking a fully qualified accountant who will be an integral part of the Financial Management team, reporting to one of the members of the Finance Leadership Team working flexibly and in a hybrid way. You will provide high quality financial insight enabling efficient delivery of our services to support the financial stability of the Council.

Your expertise will be vital in analysing financial data and providing insightful recommendations to support financial decision-making processes across the Council including critical functions such as financial planning, budget setting, forecasting and budget monitoring.

Your role will be wide ranging including providing expert and technical advice to directorates and their teams to develop innovative solutions to financial matters such as delivering savings, mitigating pressures and ensuring the delivery of best financial practice to the residents of Suffolk.

Collaborating closely with Senior Managers and budget holders, you will have the opportunity to engage and develop relationships with senior leaders and stakeholders to contribute to strategic planning and the achievement of the Council's priorities.

You will need

  • CCAB (e.g. CIPFA, ACCA) or CIMA qualified
  • a broad base of financial experience and knowledge, preferably gained from a public sector background
  • to work well as part of a team, mentor and manage staff as required
  • to competently represent the Chief Financial Officer as required
  • to be trustworthy, diligent and motivated, and able to work without close supervision
  • to be adaptable to meet changing requirements and needs.
