Section Manager - Concrete, Coventry, £32k to £38k (dependent on experience)

SOCOTEC is the UK's largest independent construction materials testing division, delivering seven million tests a year to more than 5,000 clients either in our laboratories or on-site. SOCOTEC offers the widest range of testing, inspection and certification services in the UK. Our sampling and testing methods are based upon current British and European standards and are accredited by UKAS.

We're looking for an experience Section Manager or experienced laboratory / field professional who is ready to step up into a new challenge within a fast paced materials laboratory helping drive delivery of soils, aggregate and concrete testing.

Main Duties, Responsibilities and Authorities

• Effective management of department resources
• To liaise with clients on technical and commercial issues
• Continuous improvement of operational efficiencies and client deliverables including turnaround times
• Carry out site testing when required
• Ensure the maintenance of the Health and Safety, Quality, Technical and commercial standards
• Develop and mentor the technician team.
• Staff training
• To be a productive member of the laboratory management team
• Any other duties or work reasonably requested by the employer

Key Tasks

• Training and development of staff
• Checking & issuing of reports on a daily basis
• Ensure client deadlines are kept where possible
• Communication with clients and staff daily
• Maintenance of high level of competence for technicians and control staff turnover

Job Holder Profile

• Appetite for the role and acceptance of the challenge.
• Sound and demonstrable technical knowledge

• Team management experience
• Strong knowledge of the construction industry from contracting or materials testing background
• Knowledge of working with UKAS systems
• Highly client focused individual with the ability to set and achieve results
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Self-motivated and reliable
