The role

Ready to shape the drama that millions adore? Emmerdale is seeking a passionate Script Editor to join the heart of their creative Script team. This is your opportunity to shape the narratives that captivate millions of viewers, crafting compelling storylines and unforgettable characters. You'll collaborate with talented writers, providing insightful feedback and guiding their scripts to perfection. From dramatic plot twists to heartfelt moments, your keen eye for detail and creative vision will ensure that Emmerdale remains at the forefront of captivating television drama.

Role Responsibilities

  • To attend and contribute to Emmerdale story conferences and commissioning, whilst reading all storylines in advance to help with continuity and plot development.
  • To read all submitted scripts and submit creative and structural editing notes to the Producer and warn of major continuity, technical and cast problems.
  • To work with script writers in editing and rewriting scripts as required by the Producer.
  • To attend directors' meetings as required with detailed notes of story and continuity problems.
  • To receive and circulate to Script Supervisors all script rewrites and amendments, and to inform the Producer of any implications for later scripts.
  • To attend to script amendments and problems as required by directors and crews on location and in the studio.
  • To check all amended rehearsal scripts prior to publication to ensure continuity and integrity.
  • As time allows, to spend time on location and in the studio during shooting in order to better understand production issues.
  • To assist the Senior Script Editor in managing the script administration system.
  • To feed back relevant information to the Producer so that it may be incorporated into the script editing, storylining and administrative processes.

Skills you'll need (minimum criteria)...

  • At least 1 year working as a Script Editor on a UK Broadcast TV Drama Production or Continuing Drama Production.
  • Experience working on a Continuing Drama.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet the deadlines of a rolling production.
  • The ability to effectively communicate in a professional and diplomatic manner.
  • Ability to work in a team effectively.
  • Problem Solving skills and proactivity.
  • A passion for Emmerdale.
  • Good understanding of production processes evidenced by experience both in studio and on location.
