About us

King's College London is looking for a Communications & Engagement Officer to work in one of its most high-profile schools within the Faculty of Social Science & Public Policy: the School of Global Affairs.

The School includes the Departments of Geography, Global Health & Social Medicine, and International Development, the African Leadership Centre, and the Global Institutes (Brazil, India, Lau China and Menzies Australia).

About the role

Are you a curious, professional content creator? Do you want to help our efforts to tackle some of the world's most pressing issues?

We need a talented communications pro to produce videos, social media posts, and podcasts that share our cutting-edge research looking for solutions to today's global challenges.

The role requires someone with excellent digital, social media and design skills, possessing great attention to detail and the ability to manage digital projects effectively.

The job is fast paced and varied. Some days you will out hunting for stories to turn into shareable, likeable content. On other days, you might be developing the School's webpages, supporting our vibrant events programme, or even copywriting and editing news and features.

You will also play a crucial role alongside marketing and student engagement colleagues to develop current and prospective student communications.

The successful candidate will join a friendly and hard-working team and will play a vital role in supporting our world-leading researchers and teachers to communicate their work to diverse audiences, as well as celebrating our students and alumni community.

Given the range of research areas covered by the role, and the need to work with a variety of stakeholders, the successful candidate will need to be flexible, and willing to pitch in with a variety of tasks when needed.

This is a full-time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered a permanent contact. Please note that all professional services staff are currently working hybdird with two days per week on campus.

About you

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

  1. Educated to degree level or equivalent (OR has relevant work experience within the Higher Education sector)
  2. Experience of content creation for the web and social media channels in a professional capacity, with proven ability in finding newsworthy angles for news stories, podcasts and videos.
  3. Proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite or the capability to learn and develop skills quickly with training, particularly Photoshop, Premier Pro and Audition. Knowledge of other packages would also be welcomed.
  4. A high level of attention to detail, strong organisational skills, and experience of managing multiple work-streams independently.
  5. Knowledge and experience of using Content Management Systems to manage webpages.
  6. Excellent interpersonal skills with evidence of building good working relationships with stakeholders at all levels.

Desirable criteria

  1. A relevant professional qualification in graphic design, communications or related field.
  2. Proven experience of working with and managing a brand identity.
  3. Event management experience.
  4. Understanding of the UK higher education system.
