About The Role
The Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine is seeking a highly motivated and experienced manager to lead the professional services operations of the School of Cardiovascular and Metabolic Medicine & Sciences.
Reporting to the Faculty's Director of Operations and the Head of School, you will work closely with them and the School's Executive team to develop and implement the School's academic strategy. As an important member of the School's leadership team, you will be responsible for delivering the operations of a highly ambitious research and education portfolio.
You will be responsible for the provision of outstanding operational support to academic activities, for leading the School's professional services team with a sense of cohesion and common purpose, and for collaborating with colleagues in King's central directorates to ensure seamless support of the School's activities.
You will represent the School at relevant meetings in the university and with external partners/stakeholders, deputising for the Faculty's Director of (Version 2.0 March 2024) Page 4 of 6 Professional Services Human Resources Operations when required and contributing to projects that have impact across the wider university. The professional services operations in the School include technical/laboratory support, HR, finance, education including short course and postgraduate research programmes and student support, research grant management and knowledge transfer
About You
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
Essential criteria
- Hold a minimum level 6 qualification in a relevant subject, such as an undergraduate degree or equivalent OR have extensive work experience in operational posts relevant to this role with progression to increasingly complex management responsibilities.
- Have extensive operational and strategic management experience in the Higher Education sector or a similarly complex organisation, which includes managing a large, multi-skilled and dispersed team and demonstrable experience of the ability to effectively manage significant human, physical, and financial resources to meet operational requirements.
- Enjoy working with a wide range of different people and be able to show successful experience of taking a facilitative and consensual approach to management.
- Demonstrate a genuine commitment to the work of the School and to making the world a better place through excellence in teaching, research, and service to society.
- Have knowledge and experience of the development and practical application of regulations, policies and procedures relevant to the operations of a research-active educational organisation, and experience of working with relevant compliance processes.
- Show evidence of an active commitment to your own professional development and the development of wider staff teams.
- Have excellent numerical and analytical abilities, using a data and information driven approach to identify and respond to problems. 8. Be a highly effective communicator with excellent spoken and written communication, combined with motivating, negotiating and influencing skills
Desirable criteria
- Hold a postgraduate and/or professional qualification relevant to the post.
- Have project management and leadership expertise and experience.
- Have experience of working in a complex organization with clinical and non-clinical research, including laboratory-based research, and extensive collaboration with colleagues employed by the NHS.
- Have experience of successfully leading strategy development, strategic resource planning and implementing strategic change.
