About the role
Lead on the pastoral care and safeguarding of students, ensuring their wellbeing is at the heart of every experience

The Safeguarding & Welfare Manager is a senior on-site leader responsible for the overall wellbeing and safeguarding of residential students (ages 9-17, depending on the site). You will lead a dedicated pastoral team and you will have the opportunity to shape pastoral care provision, respond to welfare challenges, and make a meaningful impact on the student experience.

Pay details

£918.97 per week (£820 weekly pay + accrued holiday pay, paid in the final payroll)

Saturday to Saturday, up to 60 hours per week on a shift pattern with overnight duties

Deputy Centre Director

Main duties

  • Safeguarding leadership: Key safeguarding lead for the site, ensuring full compliance with UK safeguarding legislation and our internal policies.
  • Incident management: Oversee the management and resolution of all safeguarding and behavioural concerns, maintaining accurate records and liaising with Head Office.
  • Welfare initiatives: Lead initiatives that promote a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for all students and staff, addressing welfare issues promptly and effectively.
  • Pastoral care coordination: Coordinate pastoral care on site to address emotional, social, and behavioural needs of all students.
  • Team leadership: Manage and support the pastoral team, providing regular supervision, and guidance to maintain high standards of staff and student care.
  • Collaboration and communication: Liaise closely with the centre management team and Head Office to ensure a proactive approach to student welfare.
  • Residential duties: Perform residential duties including morning registrations, meal time supervision, curfew checks and overnight phone duty.

About you

You're a compassionate and approachable leader with strong experience in student welfare and safeguarding. You manage teams effectively, respond calmly to welfare concerns, exercising sensitivity in challenging situations and thrive to promote an inclusive, supportive community.

Essential

  • Experience of managing pastoral, or safeguarding functions in educational or residential settings, with clear leadership over welfare-related matters.
  • Demonstrated success in implementing safeguarding policies effectively and managing sensitive student welfare cases with professionalism, discretion, and empathy.
  • Proven ability to lead and support a team to ensure consistent, high-quality pastoral care and foster positive, trusting relationships between students and staff.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills, with the ability to manage complex welfare responsibilities and resolve issues promptly and effectively.
  • Right to work in the UK (we cannot sponsor work visas for this role).

Desirable

  • Knowledge of current safeguarding legislation and best practices in student welfare, especially within residential or educational contexts, as well as child development and the social, emotional, and behavioural needs of young people.
  • Experience in international environments with awareness of diverse student backgrounds, and handling safeguarding incidents while liaising with external agencies.
  • Familiarity with safeguarding reporting procedures, record-keeping for welfare matters, and working within summer school programs or similar short-term residential education settings.
