Salary: £51,801 - £59,724 per annum
Grade: G
Contract Type: Permanent
Hours: F/T 37 Hours per Week
Location: Hybrid / Flexible Working
We are delighted to be recruiting for a Risk Manager to join our Internal Audit, Risk Management and Insurance Team.
We are looking for someone who is ideally qualified, with significant relevant experience, who maintains a resilient and positive growth mind-set at all times.
You will be a strong team player, with excellent supervisory and mentoring skills, and will be a great role model to junior colleagues.
You will have significant Risk Management experience, ideally within the public sector.
You will lead by example, be an inspirational role model to others and have strong communication and inter-personnel skills.
You will be highly effective at building professional and constructive relationships with key stakeholders, with a key focus on collaboration, adding value and supporting services and Thurrock Council through its journey of improvement.
You will have a passion for, and experience of contributing towards our ambition of achieving a Risk Managed status by April 2026.

KEY REQUIREMENTS OF THE ROLE
KEY SKILLS
- Substantial experience of working successfully at a strategic level within a Risk Management environment.
- The confidence and knowledge to provide authoritative advice to staff and elected Members on complex risk matters.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive and productive relationships with key stakeholders.
- Ability to lead, coach, inspire and empower others.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Institute of Risk Management qualification, or equivalent
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
- Extensive knowledge and experience of Risk Management, ideally within a public sector organisation.
- Experience of embedding strong Risk Management practice and culture within public sector organisations.
- Knowledge of the risks / challenges facing local government.
- Experience of establishing positive working relationships with senior stakeholders, including elected Members.
- Experience of using Risk Management software.
- Experience of working within a team.
