Situated in a beautifully refurbished train carriage, our farm shop is a unique destination for local produce enthusiasts. We pride ourselves on offering fresh, seasonal fruits, vegetables, herbs, and flowers from our own garden, alongside a curated selection of products from local producers. Our shop is more than just a place to purchase goods; it's a community hub where customers can visit our café, walk the vegetable gardens and relax in a tranquil environment.
Role Overview:
We are seeking a passionate and dynamic Retail Manager to lead our farm shop. This role is ideal for someone who has a deep appreciation for local produce, a creative eye for merchandising, and a strong entrepreneurial spirit. You will manage the shop as if it were your own business, ensuring it is beautifully presented, well-stocked, and offering an exceptional customer experience. You will work closely with the wider team at our café and restaurant and receive support from our central marketing, People Team, and finance teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily operation of the farm shop, ensuring smooth and efficient functioning.
- Manage stock levels, including ordering, receiving, and tracking inventory using our stock management system.
- Creatively dress and merchandise the shop to highlight seasonal produce and special promotions.
- Programme and maintain the till and other back-office systems, ensuring accurate and efficient transactions.
- Lead, motivate, and manage a small team of staff, including creating and managing staff rotas and training.
- Deliver fantastic customer service, engaging with customers in a friendly and positive manner and advising on product selection, including the origins and uses of various produce.
- Organise and execute tasting events to promote our products and engage the community.
- Actively seek out and build relationships with local producers to expand our product offerings, including collaboration with the cafe, restaurant, and central teams to develop promotions and cross-selling opportunities.
- Participate in the planning and maintenance of our garden, ensuring a steady supply of fresh produce whilst leveraging your knowledge of gardening and vegetable planting to advise customers and enhance our product offerings.

The ideal candidate will required the following:
- Strong passions for local produce, sustainability and community engagement.
- Experience in retail management, preferably within the food or farm shop sector.
- Proficient in stock management systems and back-office operations.
- Ability to programme and manage tills and POS systems.
- Creative eye for visual merchandising and shop presentation.
- Knowledge of gardening, vegetable planting, and seasonal produce is highly desirable.
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage and motivate a team.
- Outstanding customer service skills with a warm and positive personality.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with a drive to grow the business.
- Willingness to work weekends and attend local food fairs and events.
