We're looking for an experienced senior Programme Manager to deliver our Wessex reservoir improvement programme. Currently we have 7 reservoir projects at various stages of the project life cycle with a total portfolio value up to £80m. The programme may be extended in future to include other southwest assets, depending on need. These improvements are being delivered by multi-functional integrated delivery teams comprising Environment Agency staff and delivery partners. The team is dispersed across the southwest and you can expect a friendly welcome and exciting environment to work in.
You'll provide the strategic direction for the programme and day to day coordination of project management activity. You will lead the programme and plan, monitor and manage resources, finance, risks and dependencies. You will be responsible for delivery against challenging deadlines while ensuring the standards of the Environment Agency are met.
Strong interpersonal and influencing skills are required to ensure that all project stakeholders are engaged, fostering a fully collaborative and inclusive environment. You will need to work collaboratively with the Environment Agency's delivery partners and internal and external stakeholders.
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
The team
We are the southwest Programme and Contract Management team which sits under the Environment Agency's Flood and Coastal Risk Management Directorate.
You will become part of this award-winning team, who provide an effective project and programme management service. Our dedicated and well-qualified teams manage projects to deliver flood risk and environmental improvements.
Experience/skills required
The following qualifications, skills and experience are essential to the role: Potential candidates should either have these or demonstrate they will achieve them rapidly following appointment.
• Qualification (Degree/HND) in an engineering, construction or project management related discipline
• Chartered membership of a professional body (eg ICE, CIWEM, APM, IAM)
• Experience of working on reservoir design or construction including Matters in the Interest of Safety (MIOS).
• Experience in project and contract management, including PRINCE2 methodology and the NEC 4 contract suite
• Significant project and programme management experience in engineering, construction and/or flood & coastal risk management.
• Personal resilience and the ability to deliver challenging projects with fixed deadlines for legal compliance.
Desirable skills include:
• Established interpersonal and influencing skills, managing internal and external stakeholders.
• Ability to lead and develop project teams and bring strategic thinking which improves processes and team behaviours.
