Research Manager (Data Services)

This job is brought to you by Jobs/Redefined, the UK's leading over-50s age inclusive jobs board.

About us

At Focaldata, we're building a new kind of tech-enabled research agency - that offers clients deep insight at the speed of software. You'll get the opportunity to work alongside a highly collaborative team of researchers, client leads, engineers, data scientists and product specialists. We do impactful work with leading organisations, from brands like New Balance to campaign groups like Hope not Hate and non-profits like the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Join us!

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity for a quantitative researcher ready to step up and take the reins. You'll own client relationships end-to-end, turning complex research briefs into impactful projects using cutting-edge proprietary technology across diverse sectors - from political polling to multi-market B2C studies. If you thrive on autonomy, love solving knotty research challenges, and are passionate about delivering exceptional client service, this role offers the perfect platform to grow your expertise and make a real impact.

What you'll do

In this role, you will work closely with our Data Services clients where you will be owning client accounts, running projects end-to-end, and helping clients get the most out of the platform and the research. To do this you will:

  • Independently own and deliver quantitative research projects for clients using our proprietary technology platform across a range of sectors and audiences (e.g. political, B2C, multi-market)
  • Lead client calls and comms to scope out projects, provide updates during projects and briefings on findings and results.
  • Be ultra responsive to client needs and requests - maintain an exceptional level of client service
  • Create data tables and other custom outputs for clients using DisplayR
  • Own and expand client accounts, working closely with our growth team
  • Partner with our consulting and analytics teams to deliver large-scale insight projects. And occasionally support with leading these end-to-end projects
  • Manage, coach and help to develop researchers in your team

Expectations

You'll succeed in this role if you can:

  • Own and manage client accounts. Not only running projects for our clients, but owning the relationship. Being the clients first point of contact, understanding their broader needs and priorities, and proactively growing the work they do with us.
  • Take challenging client research requests from 0 to 1. Takes a vague/knotty research need from a client, and independently turns it into a fully-scoped project that delivers what they need. Thinks creatively about solutions and what would best fit.
  • Drive standards and best practice across the team. Being directly involved in improving how we operate as a team. Identifies issues with practices, processes, or standards, and then fixes these. Takes a leading role in the development of people in the team.

Who you are (skills and experience)

This is a great role for someone who has built great foundations in their knowledge of quant market research and is now looking to get more ownership and autonomy. You will be a great fit if you have:

  • 3-5 years as a researcher in the quantitative market research industry.
  • You can help clients see around corners by spotting pitfalls from poor sampling, survey design decisions and then working with them on a pragmatic solution.
  • Experience of the full lifecycle for delivering market research projects from survey design through fieldwork and data delivery/outputs.
  • Track record delivering high-quality quantitative research across a range of use cases, such as brand tracking, brand lift/health studies, message and ad testing, and segmentations.
  • Comfortable scripting and designing surveys to a high standard.
  • Experience cleaning raw data and producing data outputs like cross-breaks, and ensuring exceptional quality standards.
  • Commercially minded and ready to provide quotes to clients and complete RFPs big and small, alongside the desire to think creatively to expand their accounts.
  • Eager to learn about a new way of doing research combining proprietary tech with researchers who partner with clients like an extension of their team.

Nice to have:

  • Experience with DisplayR.

Who you are (mindset)

This will be a great fit for you if you are curious, detail-oriented and goal-driven. You will get a lot of autonomy and trust to flex your critical thinking and deliver exceptional client service. Clients come first, and you're committed to helping them succeed. You love to help clients see around corners and you're motivated by their success. In addition, you are keen to learn new methods, technologies, domains, etc. We're here to support you in all your learning efforts!
