Job overview
The Research and Development Department (R&D) at Moorfields Eye Hospital Foundation Trust (MEH) incorporates the NIHR Clinical Research Facility (CRF) and the Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) at MEH. The R&D Department employs approximately 120-150 staff across the which includes a range of senior managers, technical managers, researchers, research support staff, research nurses and administrative staff. Based at the Moorfields City Road site, this dynamic, lively and diverse department has the breadth of knowledge and skills to ensure that this high level of research activity and associated research processes are managed smoothly, efficiently and collaboratively.
Main duties of the job
Provide legal and contractual advice to the Research and Development within the scope of Trust policies and in liaison with Trust Legal Department where appropriate. Review, draft and amend as required a wide range of agreements connected to research carried out at Moorfields NHS Foundation Trust.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Including but not limited to commercial research (e.g. contractual and financial terms), non-commercial research (e.g. site agreements, model non-commercial agreements; drug supply agreements, material/data transfer agreements), Confidentiality Agreements, Intellectual Property Agreements (e.g. assignments and licences of patents, copyright, software), Human Tissue Act clauses and Material Transfer Agreements, Data Protection Act 2018 and UK GDPR clauses within agreements, Consultancy Agreements and other agreements as required. The Research Contracts Manager will be expected to liaise with internal and external stakeholders such as MEH units and departments, finance, governance teams, commercial and non-commercial entities and CROs.

Education and Training
Essential criteria
- Graduate in Law (LLB or equivalent) or CILEX member, or working towards qualification, with significant experience in legal case handling
- Relevant post graduate qualification or knowledge of legal procedures and contracts gained through experience
- LPC, SQE, or equivalent legal qualification
Skills and Ability
Essential criteria
- Substantial negotiation skills, able to demonstrate success across a wide range of disciplines and levels
