Your new role

National Highways have an exciting opportunity for a Regional PMO Manager to join the Regional Investment Programme (RIP), within our Major Projects (MP) directorate in the North region. This role can be based from any of our Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds or Darlington offices with regular travel to team meetings, other National Highways offices and construction sites as required.

Within this role, you will be required to contribute to the planning and delivery of projects, carrying out assigned project work to ensure the achievement of project objectives within agreed time, quality, and cost thresholds. In line with this, you will be maintaining effective governance, quality assurance, health and safety, technical and specialist standards. Please note that as these projects evolve, site presence will be required, and you may spend time between your contractual office, and the site office aligned to your project.

What you'll be leading on

  • Lead the PMO applying your technical project controls skills and experience to ensure accurate regional management programme schedule, cost and risk are integrated to provide effective and robust whole programme controls across Regional Programme. Implement and embed standardised project control tools, procedures and processes geared to proposing, controlling and managing all work on the programme.
  • Provide regular reporting and programme analysis, advice to the Senior Leadership Team, Programme and Project Managers, Project Team. Own and operate the monthly programme review and reporting timetable for the project or region aligned to governance requirements.
  • Provide technical direction to project teams and regional PMO. Contribute to the development of RIP and National Highways programme and Project Controls Procedures and tools.
  • Interface with Project teams, Senior Responsible Officers, stakeholders, customers and delivery partners to ensure integration of project control tools and the flow of consistent accurate data and information.
  • Be an integral part of the leadership team on Major Infrastructure Projects and play a leading role in the development of the PMO function within the business

To be successful you'll need

  • Significant PMO experience, working to very tight deadlines, used to handling simultaneous requests for support and information.
  • Expert knowledge of all project control tools (scheduling, cost, risk and change) and associated systems.
  • Ability to analyse large quantities of data, summarising and making informed recommendations to optimise opportunities or mitigate risks
  • Extensive experience of people management including appraisals and staff development
  • Track record of delivering improvements to systems and processes, embedding change and achieving measurable business benefits.
  • Clear ability to prioritise conflicting demands in order to meet challenging deadlines

Major Projects is responsible for the delivery of nearly 70 projects with a total value more than £14 billion, and some of the most exciting and challenging projects in the country.
