We are looking for an experienced Regional Head of Business Development - Europe and Middle East to lead the Business Development and guide the firm in all aspects of new business and client relationship management.

About the Role

The Regional Head of Business Development - Europe and Middle East reports to the Head of Business Development & Client Relationship Management and will work closely with the Local Practice Group Leaders and Heads of Departments of other Business Service functions to proactively drive and deliver the regional Business Development strategy. The Regional Head of Business Development - Europe and Middle East will balance operational, strategic and project work with the emerging and immediate needs of the business.

Primary responsibilities include:

Strategy & planning execution

  • Collaborate with the local practice group leaders in developing the business development strategy for the region and oversee the business planning and budgeting process
  • Manage, monitor and evaluate regional practice group budgets ensuring optimal allocation of resources to maximise ROI
  • Foster collaboration between practice areas through market intelligence and cross-practice business development initiatives
  • Work, alongside the Head of Business Development & Client Relationship Management and wider Maples Group Marketing & Business Development function, in helping to shape the agenda and make strategic decisions regarding areas of future focus
  • Support the Head of Business Development & Client Relationship Management and the Business Development & Marketing leadership team in firm wide activities, including taking a strategic lead role on complex projects that may fall outside of the core practice group activities, but require Senior Manager involvement

Team leadership & development

  • Day-to-day functional and project management of assigned team members. Lead, manage, motivate and develop the team and ensure good distribution of know-how within the team
  • Foster a collaborative and results-driven team culture, encouraging continuous learning and professional growth
  • Ensure the team provides proactive and tailored support to key offices and practice groups across the region, aligned with wider global objectives, activities and strategy
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and provide constructive feedback to team members
  • Provide support, counsel and coaching to partners on business development best practice
  • Foster a collaborative, positive team environment in which members can grow and thrive, whilst managing for performance
  • Coach and mentor the team on a structured approach to planning, organising and prioritising own and others' work.
  • Build strong and influential relationships across the firm, regionally and globally, to gain active engagement and support with key initiatives
  • Ensure integration amongst the wider Marketing team (Events, Communications and Digital & Creative teams) to identify synergies to aid the delivery of the Business Development agenda and enhance opportunities cross-selling
  • Identify and support on areas for training and development within the team

Practice management

  • Lead and manage the regional business development operations, focusing on improving strategic business plan development and execution, internal service delivery, policies and process optimisation, and team performance enhancement
  • Develop a deep understanding of the Irish, Luxembourg, Jersey, London and Dubai offering, identifying synergies and opportunities to cross-sell
  • Analyse market trends, competitive landscape, and client needs to identify new business opportunities
  • Build relationships and be the business development contact point for local associations and memberships
  • Take interest in and stay abreast of regional regulatory developments and identify opportunities to leverage developments for business development and client relationship purposes
  • Support and constructively challenge existing business development processes, making recommendations that will increase the team efficiency

EXPERIENCE

What You Bring

In addition to indisputably high ethical standards and autonomy, the ideal candidate possesses the following:

  • Over 12 years' experience in professional services business development, with demonstrable experience in a leadership and team management role.
  • Well-developed understanding of business development strategy and implementation.
  • A "Can do" attitude and hands-on approach where required.
  • Prior experience in developing and successfully implementing Business Development strategies with a track record for success within high performance cultures.
  • Advanced client development skills and knowledge.
  • Commercial thinking.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and an ability to develop and sustain professional relationships across disciplines and jurisdictions.
  • Proficient in the use of CRM software and data analysis tools.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills to effectively manage stakeholders at all levels and deal with sensitive and strategically significant decisions.
  • Experience working in a global, matrix organisation to help shape and deliver strategic change.
  • Demonstrable project management experience, including working within time constraints and deadlines.
  • Persuasive, positive and dynamic, with strong influencing skills.
  • Intellectual capacity to understand and solve complex issues within a commercial and legal context.
  • Proven track record in working with teams to develop business and client relationships.
