Regional Environmental Health Practitioner Manager (REHPM)

Role Overview

The Regional EHP Manager is responsible for the effective management of their team of EHPs, ensuring the team has the necessary training to deliver the work in their area to the required quality standards, on time and in full. This role is part of the Operations Team and reports into the Divisional EHP Manager (DEHPM).

Role Responsibilities

  • On time service delivery of all services delivered by your team.
  • Adherence to the company core values.
  • Communicating business updates, including company strategy, policy changes, key successes etc.
  • Own time management.
  • Maintaining personal competency, professional development, accreditation, and CPD.
  • Ensuring the correct level of competency within your team.
  • Supporting and providing cover for the DEHPMs and other REHPMs when required.
  • Undertaking the appropriate customer requirements, for example becoming a Lead Auditor for Tesco
  • Attendance of appropriate team meetings including weekly operations meeting, monthly management meetings etc.
  • Identification of utilisation and efficiency improvements.

You'll also be responsible for team management, wellbeing, engagement and development, including:

  • The well-being, motivation and engagement of your team.
  • Supporting the DEHPM to ensure the communication strategy is implemented. This includes, but is not restricted to, ensuring a level of communication across the department that helps drives colleague engagement.
  • Supporting the DEHPM to ensure the motivation and engagement strategy for the Audit department is implemented. This includes, but is not restricted to, ensuring all colleagues are suitability and sufficiently motivated and engaged in their role.
  • Ensuring the team are competent to deliver the services within their allocated area and their competency is maintained.
  • Reducing attrition and increasing the tenure of your team.
  • Supporting the recruitment of your team.
  • Evaluating performance, performance-managing poor performance, identifying future stars and supporting your team to develop.
  • EHP and Senior EHP 121s.
  • Supporting with induction and training for new starters, evaluating current competencies against requirements for the role for new starter PDPs, and providing training on the use of software and systems.
  • Onboarding training and upskilling of EHPs and Senior EHPs.
  • Supporting with development and training, including CPD training content for the EHPs and Senior EHPs.
  • Ensuring that each Auditor/EHP has been reviewed in-line with the Auditor Competency Matrix requirements.
  • Supporting with the management of the Graduate EHP training scheme.
  • Conducting shadow and quality assurance visits across the whole audit function.
  • Supporting and developing the knowledge hub to ensure that the EHP team are suitably informed.
  • Managing annual leave and ensuring that it does not impact on audit delivery.
  • Advising the team on the opportunities for overtime.
  • Managing Associates within your region.
  • Providing your team with the tools to do their job.

You will be responsible for the quality and delivery of audit and associated services.

This includes:

  • Ensuring that Senior EHPs and EHPs are competent to manage and deliver the work and their competency is maintained.
  • Ensuring that the skill set in the audit team meets audit delivery requirements, through recruitment and training
  • Overseeing the management of audit allocation, including the redistribution of audits following auditor absence(s).
  • Management of audit team allocation: ensuring audits allocated are both booked and delivered, including any team availability or audit overallocation (redistribution of work to ensure audit schedule is maintained).
  • Management of audit team ensuring audit delivery is completed and submitted to QA within the required time frame.
  • Monitoring of audit teams' quality of work, ensure audits are delivered and reported to the required standard (of client and SS).
  • The appropriate people are held accountable for poor quality and action plans are in place.
  • Proactively delivering additional targeted training where a Senior EHP / EHP fails to meet the required standard.
  • Recognising appropriate people are acknowledged for excellent levels of quality.
  • There are sufficient resources available in your region.
  • An effective and efficient process is followed in the recruitment process and their evaluation of new EHPs candidates (including Associates).
  • The audit team works effectively to deliver maximum auditor utilisation.
  • Supporting the Audit Allocations team to ensure the service delivery strategy is delivered
  • Where necessary, work with the internal subject matter experts on the development of the audit sets and ensure that the audit briefs are signed off and audit rounds are opened in a timely manner.
  • Providing cover for out of hours emergency helpline.
  • Ensuring effective and efficient delivery, within the following areas and, where necessary, make sure appropriate corrective action/ provide additional training to prevent future incidents
  • Audit escalations
  • Audit appeals process
  • Audit complaints
  • Management of the audit QA process
  • A target of three days paid and approved work, including:
  • Complex audits for example: Distribution Centre
  • Safety Support Visits
  • Training courses
  • Reconnaissance visits
  • Consultancy projects, when appropriate
  • Sales demonstrations, when appropriate
