Regional Director Power & Renewables

Working collaboratively with key partners (Global Industry Specialty leadership, Country distribution network, Enterprise Client Group and Commercial Risk leadership) to develop and implement a shared and distinctive value proposition, client service model, innovative solutions and new business development strategy specifically for Power & Renewable Energy.

The role is responsible for the regional revenue growth for clients in this industry segment involving the management of strategic client relationships (retention), new to existing and new/new business development within the Power & Renewable Energy specialty.

Taking an Aon United approach to effectively bring the best of Aon to Natural Resources clients and prospects.

The role will be report into the EMEA leader for Natural Resources, contributing to the strategy and success of the Industry Specialty and broader Aon.

What the day will look like

  • Drive the Power & Renewable Energy segment in EMEA to achieve agreed budgets, standards and other agreed targets
  • Ensure the Power & Renewable Energy segment has up to date regional business plan, local market plans and are included in Aon management information systems (Aon Connect, Growth Planning tool etc)
  • Build and maintain close business relationship with key Power & Renewable Energy clients at decision making / C-level
  • Use relationships in order to develop new business leads, including supporting all Delivering Aon United initiatives
  • Establish and develop relationships to leverage knowledge and resources available through the global Power & Renewable Energy industry specialty, to ensure the best solutions for our clients
  • Work and collaborate with other Industry Specialties and Specialty Products, and more broadly align to CRS Strategic Priorities
  • Over time, build and lead a Power & Renewable Energy regional team, following Aon practices and policies as per the Aon values
  • Lead and run direct reports based on Aon leadership model, as well as develop succession plans for regional team
  • Uphold and reinforce the Aon values and compliance standards through your leadership
  • Be a role model to all colleagues - work seamlessly with colleagues in the Aon network in an Aon United manner
  • Meet Aon global and local compliance and regulatory requirements

Specific requirements:

  • Provide senior client leadership/stewardship and, where necessary, challenge teams on existing accounts
  • Review client list and pipeline for associated opportunities (cross-selling to existing clients / new opportunities within client supply chains / opportunities in other NR segments)
  • Support execution of inbound or outbound Power & Renewable Energy opportunities in conjunction with local offices
  • Ensure delivery of marketing campaigns and thought leadership to local colleagues / clients in a systematic manner
  • Identify & develop succession candidates for country Power & Renewable Energy leader roles and talent to accelerate growth
  • Hold regular meetings with core countries to identify support required, jeopardy accounts, ensure proactivity around upcoming opportunities
  • Develop and implement an initial target list to identify 'quick wins' that demonstrate Aon's Power & Renewable Energy capabilities (for countries who have limited/no existing business / no dedicated local capability)
  • Collaborate with local teams to develop formal plan that support dedicated investment in Power & Renewable Energy (for countries who have limited/no existing business / no dedicated local capability)
  • Review broking strategy on key placements to ensure alignment with local/GBC broking protocols
  • Find opportunities to deliver Risk Capital strategy (facultative, parametrics, ART, captives and portfolio solutions)
  • Maintain relationship with key insurer partners to drive strong broking outcomes for client retention and acquisition. Function as central access point for regional carrier discussions
  • Identify and ensure large/complex claims are tracked and successfully resolved in coordination with claims escalation processes
  • Activate claims preparation commercial opportunity by ensuring slips/policies allow for claims prep fees and AGRC is activated promptly following a loss
  • Use claims as a door opener to win new business and/or secure claims consulting appointments on non-Aon broked policies (execution to be done by claims organisation)
  • Align with AGRC to identify and implement Consulting opportunities, including: risk control, valuation, forensic accounting, transition performance index and climate
  • Responsible for development of strategy & goals for business growth across Power & Renewable Energy working in collaboration with key regional distribution partners

  • Using relevant global risk management survey (GRMS), establish, maintain and improve distinctive value proposition, within and across all relevant solution lines;
  • Develop and maintain industry-specific and market-leading products, solutions and services;
  • Provide relevant and timely thought leadership, using proprietary data & analytics
  • Establish and maintain industry specific website highlighting all solution line capabilities, as well as topic thought leadership/content
  • Establish and maintain internal share point site to be accessed by all industry practitioners, regardless of solution line
  • Establish and maintain industry-specific "playbook," to include regular "red-sheeting"/ client planning
  • Work in collaboration with Enterprise Client Group to develop and win new business opportunities
  • Establish, implement and maintain a focused pricing model reflecting articulation of the unique value delivered

People & Culture

  • At all times act as a role model of Aon's values and culture and being an ambassador of Aon
  • Demonstrate exemplary leadership behaviours working across team to be a senior influencer/leader in a global matrix structure
  • Identify industry-knowledgeable and experienced talent/personnel within each solution line; to the extent no such talent exists, identify external talent and recruit into the firm or acquire through M&A
  • Drive momentum and progress in diversity and inclusion initiatives to strengthen our capabilities in Power & Renewable Energy, Commercial Risk and Aon.
  • Support P&L leaders to ensure resourcing plans are in place across the teams to ensure that the business is able to attract, retain, develop and motivate the appropriate number of staff to deliver its business objectives and targets.
  • As part of the Natural Resources leadership team, work with the relevant individuals/teams to drive a sales and service culture and ensure we have impactful teams in place
  • Coach and mentor direct reports and, where appropriate, individuals across Aon to support personal and professional development in the high-potential population, supporting retention, engagement and succession plan aims

  • Understand the Aon United agenda, support it actively and drive mentality change within the business.
  • Support Aon EMEA initiatives, contribute to and participate in Aon-wide senior executive groups, committees, ad hoc project teams and other bodies as necessary
  • Continually build Aon IQ and drive this behaviour in the business unit.
  • Proactively cross-sell risk management, claims and other Aon products and services to new and existing clients
  • Compliance & Risk Management

Skills and experience that will lead to success

  • In-depth knowledge of leading a substantial, diverse business, including budgetary management skills.
