HHFT Radiology is looking for a motivated and enthusiastic person who is passionate about ensuring high quality care and experience for our patients.

This role is vital to ensuring services are safe, effective, compliant and continually improving. Working alongside colleagues in Radiology and the Division you will be responsible for ensuring robust governance processes are in place using strong communication, analytical and organisation skills.

As a key member of the Radiology Senior Leadership team, the successful candidate must have a strong patient safety focus and will work closely with the multi-professional clinical and non-clinical teams across our Radiology services, the wider division and Trust . You will be empowered to lead on the Radiology governance agenda ensuring systems and processes are in place to support the key pillars of governance.

You will work closely with the Radiology Clinical Governance Lead Radiologist and lead the development and sustainability of a strong quality, governance and health, and safety culture within the Radiology department, with patient safety as its focus, building on current best practice and leading new ways of working where required

Main duties of the job

  • To be the governance, quality and patient safety expert for the Radiology business unit, supporting and advising the teams within area of expertise
  • Lead the Governance agenda for the Radiology Service with the Consultant Radiologist Governance Lead and ensure that the highest standards of quality governance are maintained
  • You will manage data to monitor key Governance outputs, preparing and presenting information for Radiology and Divisional meetings and to feed back to clinical teams.
  • To develop, lead on and be responsible for Radiology's systems of Quality Governance and Risk Management
  • The portfolio includes responsibility for patient safety, quality governance, risk management, clinical effectiveness compliance
  • The post holder will develop processes to ensure that patient experience is at the heart of Radiology service improvement.
  • Oversee and manage the clinical and non-clinical Radiology risk register.
  • To develop, implement and manage a Quality Management system across HHFT Radiology
  • To undertake a gap analysis between current position and requirements to obtain imaging service accreditation against BS 70000/QSI and to lead the work towards becoming an accredited service
  • Keep abreast of the national agenda regarding Patient Safety and Patient Experience

Training & Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Relevant level 7 qualifications or demonstrable equivalent experience
  • Clinical level 6 qualification (nurse, AHP, clinical scientist etc.)
  • Evidence of continuous professional development

Desirable criteria

  • HCPC Registered radiographer
  • Project management qualification
  • Quality Improvement training /qualifications
  • Human Factors training

Experience and Knowledge

Essential criteria

  • Experience working in an acute NHS setting
  • Evidence of undertaking senior/lead roles dealing with risk management, quality of care, patient safety issues
  • In depth knowledge and understanding of Radiology services, requirements and challenges
  • Clinical Governance, Audit and Quality knowledge acquired through training and experience
  • Up to date knowledge of NHS governance processes e.g. Clinical Audit and Effectiveness Processes, Patient safety and risk, Patient/carer feedback processes
  • Understanding of Patient Safety Incident Response Framework
  • Experience of working collaboratively with multi-disciplinary clinical teams
  • Experience building effective relationships and working closely with staff from a variety of different backgrounds and levels of knowledge
  • Experience of delivering education and training sessions in a variety of formats
  • Knowledge and understanding of external regulatory requirements relating to Radiology Services

Desirable criteria

  • Experience and understanding of quality and safety within a Radiology Department
  • Experience of coaching staff through clinical and professional challenges
  • Experience of implementing service accreditation.
  • Experience of implementing/ managing a Quality Management System
  • Used to working with members of the public so public opinion and views are meaningful to support service improvements.
  • Evidenced understanding of budgetary / financial management.
  • Experience of managing complaints
  • Knowledge of quality improvement methods and techniques.

  • Ability to manage contentious and sensitive information,
  • Ability to analyse and present complex information and data and to recommend the best course of action
  • Ability to identify problems and quickly act on them and support teams/individuals to find solutions
  • Ability to prioritise, plan and manage a large workload to meet strict deadlines
  • In depth specialist knowledge of NHS clinical governance strategy, policy, and current issues
  • Able to organise and facilitate meetings effectively
  • Ability to influence & negotiate by working with people through a decision-making process to reach an agreed outcome
  • Evidence of successful leadership, management and engagement of clinical teams to introduce change in a complex setting.
