A Snapshot of Your Day
The role of the Quality Engineer (QE) is to support a Quality Manager in Projects (QMiP) across multiple Projects from the Tender Stage, throughout Delivery and to the hand-over to an End Client at Project Closure. Liaison also with suppliers on and off site is also required on a regular basis.
This role is primarily centered around Quality Assurance, so knowledge of Management Systems as well as Auditing skills are crucial. Successful candidates must also have proficiency in using Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, and other IT applications.
Some Quality Control duties will also be given to those personnel with relevant experience and knowledge in Primary Plant and Secondary Equipment utilised within the Power Industry, particularly those persons having worked in a Substation environment and on construction sites
How You'll Make an Impact
- Assist with Tender estimates from a quality perspective including production of Quality Plans, Audit Schedules and Manufacturing Assurance Plans
- Assist and/or conduct Inspections linked to Manufacturing Assurance activities such as Surveillance visits and Factory Acceptance Tests and audits both internally and of the contracted Supply chain
- Review of Supplier Factory Control Plans / Manufacturing Inspection Test Plans (ITPs) and Installation ITPs and monitor their progress
- Carry out relevant PM Gates at the agreed stages of a Project
- Assist the Project and Site teams with any Quality related issues and Ensure that Non-Conformances are raised and Root Cause Analysis is undertaken
- Monitor Snags and Defects generated on Projects
What You Bring
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Experience of working as part of a Project Delivery Team
- Auditing skills
- Full UK Driving Licence
- Willing to travel to multiple sites throughout the UK and some foreign travel as required
- Several years' experience in at least one project-related job (erection, engineering, commissioning etc.)

The high performing Quality Team in the UK consists of QMiPs and Quality Engineers who support the Project Entity (PE) and the Grid Technology & Grid Services (GTGS) businesses. Within these there is a wide portfolio of prestigious projects including substations, HVDC interconnectors and windfarm connections, Grid Access, Flexible Arc Transmission and synchronous condensers. The Quality Team also work closely with colleagues in the Environmental and EHS Teams.
