The Role
The Quality Manager oversees the daily operations of the site quality team, supporting Technical Leads and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. This role involves collaborating with Operations and other departments to meet manufacturing and product quality targets within budgetary constraints for your designated sub-factory and shift.
Key responsibilities include managing the site on a shift basis, leading and developing the team to excel in Safety, Hygiene, Quality, Quantity, and Cost (SHQQC). Effective leadership of QA personnel is crucial, ensuring role-model behaviours and robust governance procedures to track key performance indicators against a balanced scorecard.
Additionally, the Quality Manager mentors QA staff, helping them understand company expectations and role profiles. You will manage your workload, delegate tasks as needed, and remain flexible to meet business demands.
Salary Range: £40,446.00 approximate per annum.
Duties Include:
- Seek continuous learning and self-development.
- Review and approve daily business plans.
- Stay updated on machinery, trends, and technologies.
- Communicate issues to Site Technical Managers and Quality team.
- Ensure process conformance and ownership of GMP, HACCP, and food safety.
- Adhere to and improve business processes to eliminate waste.
- Ensure compliance with company and customer requirements.
- Lead customer visits and technical activities. Apply Early Management to NPD, equipment, and packaging projects
- Drive a quality culture and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Lead HACCP teams and pest control compliance.
- Investigate customer complaints and queries.
- Monitor factory hygiene and manufacturing standards.
- Lead third-party and customer audits, including corrective actions.
- Manage and evaluate the delivery of services from key contractors.
- Conduct risk assessments and promote safety.
- Implement and comply with company policies and procedures.
- Develop and deliver Continuous Improvement Initiatives.
- Manage skills development and training plans.
- Ensure engagement and a positive food safety culture on site.
Skills & Experience Required:
- Level 4 or equivalent Food Hygiene Certificate.
- Level 3 HACCP qualification.
- 10 years of experience in the food industry, with previous roles in similar positions.
- In-depth understanding of factors influencing food safety and methods to control them.
- Strong knowledge of BRC standards and experience in leading audits.
- Proven experience in managing a quality function and maintaining good relationships with key customers (e.g., multiples).
- Comprehensive understanding of food safety systems and good manufacturing practices.
- Proactive approach to quality and food safety, promoting good practices and effectively communicating actions and information within the team and across associated work groups.
