Overall Purpose of the Role:

This is an exciting and challenging opportunity to lead the Purchasing Team in a rapidly growing, diversifying business that is constantly evolving to ensure we stay competitive in the marketplace. With a direct spend across Chemicals and Packaging of over £25m, there is a great opportunity to impact positively on this business through commercial gains and relationship building with suppliers. In a period of huge change with consumer and customer demands rapidly evolving, this is a challenging role that will test the candidates full skillset.

Role Objective and Responsibilities:

  • Overall Management of the Procurement Team which consists of sub departments: Purchasing & Expediting.
  • Identify projects to create efficiencies / gains in all of the below areas:
  1. Commercial - Cost Engineering / Tendering / Negotiation
  2. Supplier Management
  3. Business Processes
  • Implement identified projects using risk management techniques to ensure full buy in with all stakeholders.
  • Build relationships with key suppliers to enable a collaborative working relationship to mitigate commercial / service level impacts in the future.
  • Bring an 'Anything Can Be Fixed' attitude to problem solving, collaborative approach with the wider teams. Direct and Resolve the problem. Implement change to ensure we do not have a repeat of the problem.
  • Maintain importance within the team of best practice through processes and business workflows. Enforce and report on current processes and improve where possible.
  • Creative Sourcing Expert, able to identify new suppliers and integrate them where possible.

Key Skills and Qualifications:

  • Experience with an MRP / ERP based system in a manufacturing environment;
  • Excellent numerical skills: Strong ability to understand and advise on product costings;
  • Experience of leading a Global Sourcing Team;
  • Experience of leading a Purchasing Department;
  • Exceptional organisational abilities, ensuring efficient handling of multiple tasks and projects;
  • Must be able to communicate across all levels of the business, from factory floor to Senior Directors & externally with Suppliers and Freight companies;
  • Has commercial acumen and an understanding of business issues;
  • A pivotal team player with a collaborative mindset, supporting the success of the wider business;
  • Ability to multi-task and work on multi-projects;
  • Motivated and Deadline-driven: A self-starter with a 'can-do' attitude, consistently motivated to meet deadlines and drive results;
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced environment, responding effectively to pressure and changes in priorities;
  • Professional and Adaptable: Maintains a professional demeanour while being adaptable and flexible to changing business needs.
