Play a key role in developing and regenerating city of Leicester.
Leading a Public Lighting team that delivers all aspects of highway lighting, from design to delivery and the continued maintenance of the lighting assets. You will lead and develop a team of 18 staff, ranging from site electrical operatives to senior engineers, delivering an efficient and well-maintained service for the residents of Leicester. You'll be at the heart of the guiding the team through new challenges and changes and with a commitment to more investment, you'll find lots more opportunities to increase your skills and knowledge, as you help us create a team and city to be proud of.
Based primarily at St. Margarets Depot, Slater Street, you'll be required to undertake site visits in and around the city, to oversee and advise on lighting maintenance and improvement activities. When not needed on location you will have flexibility to work from home.
Whilst most of the work can be undertaken Monday to Friday, occasionally some works must take place on the weekend and/or at night to avoid disruptions to local traffic, you'll be able to work flexibly with paid time off in lieu, to oversee delivery of these works.
What you'll be doing
You'll be leading a diverse team in the design and delivery of lighting projects and maintenance. You will be responsible for setting and agreeing lighting asset management policy and programmes, ensuring that work streams are delivered within budget and to the correct specifications. You'll lead the deployment and use of new asset management systems, ensuring that all levels within the team are managing the workflow and assets appropriately.
You'll oversee and support the operations supervisor to ensure that all public lighting works are delivered in a safe and efficient manner. In doing so you will ensure that the team complies with all relevant legislation, codes of practice and industry standards.
Working with other teams within the highways service, the wider council and external partners, you will deliver capital projects, developer works and a festive decoration programme, as well as the annual maintenance programme. This will require you to bring communication skills and stakeholder management to achieve our aims and represent the council.
What you'll need
You'll have experience of working in a senior position within a lighting team already and ideally have operational management experience as well. A strong leader, you'll be able to ability to manage staff, projects, programmes and health and safety responsibilities including compliance with legislation.
You'll have experience of working with the relevant British Standards and Institute of Lighting Professional standards for lighting specifications, to both design lighting installations, but also inform policy.
Managing service budgets, you'll be able to relay this information to a range of stakeholders, adapting to suit their technical knowledge. Confident in using asset and central management systems, you will enable you to track assets lifecycles, implement the appropriate maintenance programmes and monitor project progress.
Self-motivated, you'll be able to work independently, lead, supervise and train whilst providing guidance and advice to other team members.
You'll be required to hold a current driving licence.
