You will be part of the NW&C Region which consists of three routes:

  • North West
  • Central
  • West Coast South - and a regional team supporting Regional Major Programmes & Professional services.

We offer hybrid working - with the requirement to be in the office two/three days a week.
Brief Description

The successful candidate will work for the NW&C region covering Projects within one or all 3 routes for Capital Delivery Track. The Portfolio is covering Switches & Crossings, Plain Line and Drainage Track Renewal Projects with Multi-discipline elements.

As a Project Planner, you'll develop project or integration programme plans/schedules on behalf of programme and project managers in order to meet the overall requirements of the client/business in the most cost-effective and reliable manner.

You'll have excellent stakeholder management with both internal and external companies. This role would be well suited to someone with strong negotiation and persuasion skills.

Experience working with Primavera is key, but rail industry experience is not!

You will be required to travel to both Birmingham Baskerville House and the Aston Depot as and when required.

About the role (External)

What will you be doing?

• To interact and become a key member of the project delivery team providing a quality service to support the effective delivery of the project.

• To interact and support effective information sharing/collection with all the project stakeholders in an appropriate manner.

• Prepare a project work breakdown structure and plan/schedule which is capable of delivering the project objectives and providing effective project performance measurement and reporting.

• To develop the appropriate quality plan/schedule in line with the project scheduling principles and processes.

• Monitor and progress the plan/schedule and make changes as required. Develop recovery schedules and contingency plans in order to meet changed objectives as necessary.

• Report actual performance and variance against plan and forecast outcomes. Highlight key milestones and critical path issues to members of the team, provide an assessment of the impact of such issues and recommend solutions to correct the position.

• Monitor and audit contractor plans. Monitor contractor's planning processes so that they comply with Network Rail procedure requirements.

In order to be successful in this role, we would like you to have/to be:

• Relevant experience in the successful scheduling of engineering projects.

• Knowledge of investment planning systems.

• Experience of using a number of project management scheduling tools & techniques

• Experience of using Primavera


We would also like but it isn't crucial to have/to be:

• Membership of a relevant professional body

• Understanding of engineering requirements
