Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will be expected to have proven and substantial experience in managing research studies; for example, by having previously worked as trial manager on a multi-site study.

The post-holder will work alongside colleagues at the University of Manchester and Greater Manchester Mental Health Trust on a research project to explore the effects of workplace trauma on staff working on acute mental health wards. The post holder will be responsible for co-ordinating the research activities across multiple sites to ensure the project delivers to target. They may be required to assist with other activities, such as engagement and consultation with stakeholders and dissemination of research findings.

Person specification

Education

Essential criteria

  • 1st or 2:1 honours degree (or equivalent) in health sciences, social sciences (or related) with knowledge of the subject area
  • Masters Degree in relevant subject area or equivalent experience

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Clear understanding of and interest in mental health or health services research.
  • Significant experience of Research Governance and Ethics procedures.
  • Relevant experience of managing and supervising research and other staff e.g. within NHS and/or Higher Education Institution (HEIs) environments.
  • Track record of authorship of peer-reviewed academic publications, research reports, conference abstracts and presentations.

Knowledge

Essential criteria

  • Sound knowledge of research into psychosocial interventions
  • Awareness and understanding of Research Governance Framework
  • A thorough knowledge and understanding of working in a research team e.g. appropriate, professional conduct and dealing with matters such as confidentiality
  • A sound knowledge of statistics and research methodology
