A little more about your role...

  • Manage highways projects for public and private sector clients across Cumbria, the North of England and beyond, through planning, design and construction stages
  • Lead the preparation and submission of successful bids for future projects as part of frameworks and other procurement routes
  • Your projects range from planning active travel initiatives to designing new highway infrastructure improvements, overseeing construction contractors and managing assets in operation
  • Your clients range from the new unitary councils in Cumbria to Local Authority framework commissions and national infrastructure agencies across the North of England and beyond
  • This role reports to the Team Leader for the Roads business in Carlisle
  • Your team is comprised of Engineers in Carlisle supported by remote resources in India - this worldwide representation brings a diverse culture to your team
  • Specific development opportunities include progression to higher grades within the WSP Transport & Infrastructure business as the team grows over the coming months
  • The Carlisle office is conveniently located in the City Centre, directly opposite the West Coast Mainline railway station, with direct access to the M6

What we will be looking for you to demonstrate...

  • Significant experience of managing highway projects and programmes
  • Ability to understand national and local technical standards
  • Experience of bidding for projects through frameworks and other procurement routes
  • Experience in preparing and presenting technical reports to senior managers
  • Good working knowledge of Health & Safety including CDM 2015
  • Experience of NEC contracts
  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering or significant relatable experience
  • Chartered Engineer or working towards a professional qualification
