Project Manager / Assistant Programme Manager

Overview

This role is responsible for one major projects or multiple projects to deliver on time, quality, and budget for the project milestones. You will generate deliverables-based, integrated plans (timing and resource) to set timelines for the successful delivery of project objectives to quality, time and cost targets. You will also collaborate with technical leader to set milestones in the plan to track progress and report progress regularly to the Programme Manager.

Please note this role does offer hybrid working, our model sets out a minimum 60% onsite / 40% home working split

Responsibilities

  • Lead and dictate daily team workload reviews and weekly supplier meetings. Document and distribute key notes and actions.
  • Lead preparation, submission and presentation of project status reports and project gateway documentation for review with the programme manager
  • Identify project risks and liaise with key stakeholders to ensure suitable mitigation plans are in place and proactively coordinate business discussions to resolve any time, cost or specification changes where necessary.
  • Manage subcontractors specific to projects with collaboration from purchase.
  • Work with purchasing department to ensure correct information is issued to achieve on time delivery
  • Seek out and promote the smarter and most efficient ways of delivering the project against the business milestone
  • With support from the head of portfolio and resource managers re-evaluate resource demand, budget forecast and load capacity
  • Contribute to lessons learned /quality issues.
  • Promote adherence to safe working practices in the delivery of project activities.
  • Actively work within the PMO to share best practice, develop the project management framework and support the PM strategy.

Requirements

  • Experience in delivering complex technology product, construction and / or infrastructure programmes.
  • The ability to work in a fast-changing environment and cope with ambiguity
  • A focus on both short-term and long-term project delivery
  • Well-structured planning and resourcing for budget setting and management
  • Strong decision-making, problem-solving, planning, and organisational skills
  • An interest in teaching, supporting and leading others
  • A self-starting and autonomous ways of working.
  • Experience using Microsoft Project and/or Agile programme management tools
  • Ideally a STEM Degree or background and a passion for fusion energy
  • APM qualified (to PFQ or PMQ level) or equivalent
