As a Project Manager you will be involved in the management of complex, multi-disciplinary rail projects of regional, national and international significance

We are looking for people who can make a difference; pro-actively manage requirements, budgets, schedules and risks and influence others to deliver successfully together.

We want people with an innovative mindset, the ability to embrace change, and being able to collaborate with our clients to achieve value-based solutions.

You will have 5-10 years proven project management experience. You will be a strong communicator, love to problem solve and have the ability to manage technical experts. You will be willing to take on new challenges and are experienced in the management of significant and complex projects or programmes of work. A background of working with organisations such as Network Rail, HS2, TfGM, and other rail-related organisations will be advantageous.

Based in our modern Manchester city centre offices, we are a diverse and enthusiastic Team of project managers. Role

Our working environments are varied and flexible, and involve collaborating closely with client teams, with multi-disciplinary project teams, in both WSP and client offices. You will sometimes visit sites. We expect you to be in an office environment three days a week, with the flexibility to work from home for up to two days a week. Our culture encourages, supports and guides practising a successful work-life balance, and we encourage all our people to embrace this approach. This role entails:

  • Joining a specialist Project Management focussed team ranging in Project Management experience from early career professionals to colleagues with over two decades of knowledge.
  • Collaborating with clients and their suppliers to deliver programmes of strategic regional and national importance.
  • Roles offer development opportunities both within the Client Project team and further promotion within WSP.
  • Opportunity to gain formal Project Management qualifications through the APM pathway including mentorship and guidance.
  • Modern, vibrant offices in great city centre locations.

Our people typically support our project and client teams with the following:

  • Establishing maintaining or supporting ia professional project management team capable of delivering the required services to client organisations.
  • Establishing robust processes and procedures to manage the project, in consultation and engagement with our commercial and administration teams.
  • Delivering necessary periodic project reports and data-based scenarios, to allow senior managers to direct the project appropriately.
  • Managing interfaces between project and client teams and establishing risk mitigation measures.
  • Delivering information regarding changes and delays that have impacted the project on a period-by-period basis and propose how these should be resolved / managed.
  • Facilitating effective planning of the works within the project team

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree, ideally in relevant engineering or management discipline.
  • APM/MSP/PMI/PRINCE2/Six Sigma post-graduate qualifications would be an advantage.
  • 5-10 Years experience in major rail projects. Technical and project management, and Project Controls experience is vital.
  • Client or project delivery (design and build) Rail, Metro or Transport experience an advantage.
  • Proven ability to manage successfully within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Experience in a consultancy environment with great customer and stakeholder management skills.
