The Project Manager will be designing and developing electronic solutions, facilitating New Product Introduction (NPI) for the purposes of vacuum pump systems within the Atlas Copco Vacuum Technique business area.
Main Responsibilities:
To develop, define and execute project plans, schedules, budgets and deliverables to ensure that the assigned NPI projects deliver the specified product to the Product Company to agreed timescales and budgets. The role expects that the person will work within a specific cross functional team in conjunction with the team's NPI Manager to develop and deliver new products within the framework of the company PCP process.
- Monitor project progress and KPIs liasing with all stakeholders. Report on KPIs, project highlights, risks and issues as well as project changes to the site/Divisional Management Committee at formal monthly meetings. Ensure risks are managed appropriately by time bounded mitigation plans and show the working where calculated risks are being taken..
- Work with divisional stakeholders and the NPI manager to develop business cases at the feasibility stage of projects, agreeing to initial specifications with marketing and technical stakeholders and working with the NPI Manager to produce preliminary project, resource, and cost plans to present proposals to site/Division PCM Committee for approval.
- Ensure good communication and dynamics exist between the local Engineering team as well as Operations at Eastbourne PC and further between teams at the remote PC sites as well as other divisional departments. Establish project steering boards if the project demands it. Ensure smooth project handovers to production anticipating any challenges when the product reaches volume production.
- Take the lead to identify gaps in expectations between the project team and stakeholders and manage the expectations accordingly. Be clear about where change in the project has occured and manage the process to facilitate a later audit of where change has occurred and the impact. Adopt a mindset of continuous reflection when projects do not necessarily go to plan and put in place strategies to avoid repeats where there have been negative consequences. Look to enhance professional accreditation where appropriate.
- Ensure the relevant quality and reliability analyses have been undertaken such as DFMEA and PFMEA where appropriate. Work with stakeholders with a vested interest in Quality and Reliability to ensure that projects from Eastbourne PC have folllowed the expected processes and align with the long-term quality and reliability targets in the annual OGSM.
- Ensure early on in the project lifecycle that there is a clear understanding of what the project test strategy is both within the NPI team and the expectations at the Operations level. Be clear with the project team about what level of testing needs to have occurred before PCP gate milstones can be crossed.
- Own the project lifecycle up to Gate 6 in the PCP process whereupon it can be transferred to the Eastbourne PC Technical Support Team. This assumes an acceptable FTTFR has been achieved in production and the Technical Support Team has received sufficient training to support the project on a stand-alone basis.
- Ensure the project follows the PCP process to which Eastbourne PC is aligned. Ensure also that all safety and regulatory compliance is achieved.
Skills / Knowledge / Experience:
- Degree in Engineering Discipline (lower qualification with more experience will be considered.)
- Minimum of 2 years experience as a Project Manager preferably in an electronics development environment
- Must be able to demonstrate ability to plan and deliver complex projects
- Must be able to demonstrate ability to prioritise multiple activities
- Good communication skills
- Must be able to communicate effectively at all levels
- Will report progress monthly to site/division Management Team
- Should be able to demonstrate effective influencing skills
- Confident use of Microsoft Project
- Experience working in a regulated, compliance-driven industry
