We are looking to recruit an Project Manager (NEC4), to work for our client a well established Consultancy business, based in Stockport, Greater Manchester.

The role involves acting on behalf of the client as the NEC 4 ECC Project Manager for 3 key projects from construction to handover. The NEC4 Project Manager will work closely with the Client's Project Manager. Construction for these schemes is planned to commence in late July 2024.

The Project Manager will be able to build strong and effective working relationships with the Client's Project Manager, Local Authority Engineers, Quantity Surveyors, framework contractors, consultant partners, and other stakeholders to ensure a collaborative approach to scheme delivery. The role will operate in a matrix environment and will include project progress and cost reporting internally and externally, ensuring a consistent and efficient approach to both.

The primary function of the role is to undertake the duties of Project Manager in accordance with the NEC4 Engineering & Construction Contract including:

  • Supporting the Lead Designer with the preparation of the Engineering and Construction Contract (ECC), ensuring all project specifics are accurately captured and aligned with client and stakeholder expectations.
  • Assisting the Project Manager / Team in ensuring that the Client's requirements, procedures, and quality processes are followed.
  • Observing the on-site health and safety aspects of the Contractor's operations and informing the Project Manager of key H&S risks / and or areas for improvement.
  • Reporting observed on-site safety issues (near misses, dangerous occurrences, practices) to the Project Manager / Supervisor.
  • Attendance at meetings as requested by the Project Manager.
  • Ensuring full compliance with the NEC4 contract terms and conditions.
  • Supporting the Project Manager's work of developing and maintaining detailed project plans, including resource allocation, schedule management, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Fostering a collaborative work environment among project teams and stakeholders, in line with the spirit of mutual trust and cooperation advocated by the NEC4 framework.
  • Supporting the Client PM and Quantity Surveyors in managing project finances, including budgeting, forecasting, and cost control.
  • Ensuring adherence to health, safety, and environmental policies and regulations.
  • Acting as the first point of contact for the Client with regards to any accidents or incidents on Site and coordinate responses with the Contractor and Client.
  • Supporting the Client PM in assessing the potential impact of stakeholder led changes before they are instructed.

The Ideal candidate will have the following skills & experience:

  • At least five years' experience in administering NEC ECC forms of contract in an equivalent role for an Engineering Consultancy.
  • Previously worked on local authority schemes in the Greater Manchester area.
  • Highways, transportation infrastructure projects, including walk / cycle schemes is essential.
  • Experience of working across multiple projects (up to five at any one time) simultaneously with construction values ranging from £100k to £5m is desirable.
  • Supervision of contractors on site and verification of valuations for completed works.
  • Experience in working with site supervisors, ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards.
  • Experience of working on highways and transportation infrastructure projects, including walk / cycle schemes is essential.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with local authorities, ensuring projects are delivered to high standards.
  • Strong experience in the delivery of cycle infrastructure or active travel schemes, showcasing the ability to manage projects from inception to completion within tight deadlines and budgets.

Qualifications and Certifications:

  • Relevant NEC contract and/or professional qualifications would be advantageous.
  • Driving Licence.
  • Appropriate level of CSCS Card or NEBOSH.

Pay Rate:
£35.00 - £45.00 per hour (PAYE/Umbrella) dependent on experience.

The role is a contract position and is inside IR35, and the anticipated start date is late July 2024, this will be a full time role from late July 2024 until March 2025, working 5 days per week.
From April to September 2025, the role will revert to approx 3 days per week.
