Brief Description

About the function...

Network Certification Body (NCB) is a dynamic independent company within the Network Rail Group; we provide infrastructure and rail vehicle assessment services in the UK and European rail industry and we're growing to meet the needs of this expanding market. We provide a comprehensive range of certification services, covering all the legislation that a rail engineering project require, and we need talented people like you to join us. You'll develop your career whilst playing a key role in the safety of rail vehicles on the operational railway of the future.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for someone who thrives in a busy, fast paced environment, with experience in delivering complex, multi-project programmes safely, to time and budget. This role involves team management, so we are looking for someone who will enjoy managing a virtual team of cross-functional colleagues. You will have previous experience in tracking time and cost for complex projects, producing financial and technical reports and business proposals internally and for clients. You will be able to control project change throughout the project lifecycle, to mitigate business risks. We are also looking for someone to develop assessment programmes, and carry out resource planning, proactively adapting to programme and resource changes to ensure client satisfaction.

About the role (External)

What does the average day look like?

In this role you will provide a professional, first class, consistent and effective project management service to deliver complex multi-project programmes safely to time, cost and quality, in accordance with NCB's management system. You will develop project management strategies, methodologies and tools. Whilst developing assessment programmes and plans for complex projects to successfully deliver against client remits. This also includes carrying out resource planning to deliver multi-discipline and multi-team projects to time, cost and quality, proactively adapting to programme and resource changes. As well as operating and supporting the development of the company's resource planning system.

Day to day you will manage collaborative, cross-functional, virtual teams to deliver complex projects. Including tracking progress in terms of time and cost for allocated complex projects. You will produce regular progress reports internally and for clients, taking inputs from technical staff. As well as controlling project change (including scope, time and cost), risks and contingency within the project life cycle and collate all cost, contingency and programme details to enable business risks to be understood. Also carrying out analysis of resource utilisation and delivery performance in terms of cost, timescales and quality across the portfolio of projects. Whilst providing capability and cost information for business proposals.

What essential skills and experiences are required?

• Membership of an appropriate professional institution or association (e.g. APM/PMI) or working towards

• Substantial relevant successful experience in the management of complex programmes

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

• Successful experience of motivating a virtual project team

• Strong commercial and financial understanding and knowledge

We would also like, but not essential.

• Knowledge and understanding of contract management

• Successful experience in the application of continuous improvement tools

• Successful experience of working in the rail industry
