Job description

We value a diverse workforce and welcome applications from all sections of the community wishing to join a workforce which embraces difference and welcomes everyone.

We are looking for Project Managers to lead and deliver exciting, innovative projects including flood risk management studies and schemes that reduce the risk of flooding to communities and enhance the environment.

This role sits in Programme & Contract Management (PCM) and is a prominent position within our integrated project teams, taking responsibility for the management of projects as the Client project manager, or working alongside senior colleagues. The role holder will manage the project delivery process from initial strategic planning, through to feasibility, detailed design and then into implementation, construction and handover. You will support project team members, flexing your involvement to suit the strength of the team.

You will build a great working environment to create high performing teams including our suppliers, client representatives, technical specialists and other partners. Applying your strong commercial acumen in project, contract and risk management, you will establish effective relationships, facilitating collaborative and efficient ways of working. You will make project decisions informed by technical leads whilst following governance procedures, project assurance and legislation.

The ability to develop a resilient network of relationships with stakeholders such as statutory authorities, landowners and local communities to negotiate agreements, consents, approvals and external funding is crucial.

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.

The team

We are Programme and Contracts Management (PCM), part of Major Projects and Programme Delivery (MPPD), creating a better place through excellence in project and programme management.
You will become part of an award-winning team that provides areas, alongside national services, and centres, with an effective project/programme management service. Our strong, well-qualified teams manage projects throughout their life-cycle to deliver environmental improvements, adding value and resulting in a greater sense of shared ownership with local communities.

Experience/skills required

You will have a relevant degree such as civil engineering, environmental science or geography and strong experience of both contract and project management. Ideally, but not exclusively, you will have experience working on civil engineering projects and be a natural innovator, expert negotiator and champion of good practice. You'll bring an inspirational momentum that ensures everything is done on time to quality and budget.

Having at least four years project management experience, as a minimum, you should have a project management qualification such as in PRINCE2 or APM. If not already a member of a professional body such as ICE, CIWEM or APM, we will support you in achieving this. In addition, the more experience you have of financial and commercial controls, NEC contract suites, CDM regulations and risk management, the better. This role requires a full UK Driving Licence.

Contact and additional information

Benefits include generous pension provision and leave entitlement. Our flexible working supports a healthy work/life balance and offers numerous choices to accommodate the demands that personal commitments may present. Excellent training and learning opportunities are available, including personal and professional development

Base location can be flexible within the *East* Hub but with an expectation of co-locating in Hub or delivery partner offices occasionally.
