As they expand, they're looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Pre-Construction Assistant to join their team and support the early stages of project delivery.
About the Role
This is a hands-on Project Manager position within a growing SME D&B firm delivering fast-paced retail and office fit-out projects. You'll take full ownership of multiple live schemes at any one time, ensuring they are delivered safely, profitably, and to a high standard. The ideal candidate thrives in a dynamic environment, is commercially sharp, and enjoys leading projects from pre-start through to handover.
Key Responsibilities
Project Delivery
- Lead multiple fit-out projects simultaneously, typically 1-6 months in duration.
- Manage all on-site activities, ensuring works are delivered to programme, quality, and client expectations.
- Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams to maintain smooth project flow.
- Chair progress meetings, produce reports, and maintain clear communication with all stakeholders.
- Oversee design coordination, ensuring information is accurate, buildable, and aligned with client requirements.
Commercial & Financial Control
- Take full ownership of project finances, including budgets, variations, valuations, and cost tracking.
- Work closely with commercial teams to protect margin and ensure financial transparency throughout the project lifecycle.
- Identify risks early and implement mitigation strategies to maintain profitability.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure all works are delivered in line with H&S legislation and company procedures.
- Conduct site inspections, RAMS reviews, and ensure safe working practices at all times.
Client & Stakeholder Management
- Act as the main point of contact for clients, building strong relationships and ensuring a positive project experience.
- Manage expectations proactively, resolving issues quickly and professionally.
- Deliver projects that encourage repeat business and referrals.
Skills & Experience
- Proven experience delivering commercial fit-out projects (retail or office) in the £100k-£1m range.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to run multiple projects concurrently.
- Solid commercial awareness and confidence managing budgets, variations, and financial reporting.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to motivate teams and manage subcontractors.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced SME environment where autonomy and initiative are essential.
- SMSTS, CSCS, First Aid (preferred but not essential depending on company requirements).
