Job Description
We are seeking an experienced, high-calibre UK Project Manager-Major Projects to oversee large and significant projects across our industrial cranes and crane modernisation business. This is a pivotal role that involves leading complex, high-value projects while managing demanding, high-profile customers.
This role reports to: UK Engineering Manager, with a dotted line to UK IC Director.
About the Role
You'll take full ownership of major projects from initial planning to final delivery, ensuring projects meet scope, time, budget, and quality expectations. Working across industrial cranes and modernisation projects, you'll define project requirements, control resources, and maintain strong financial oversight.
Key responsibilities include:
- Project Planning: Plan, prioritise, and manage end-to-end project delivery using Konecranes' processes and tools.
- Team Leadership: Assign tasks, optimise resources, and guide your team to meet project deadlines.
- Customer Management: Serve as the single point of contact for customers, building and maintaining strong relationships with demanding, strategic clients.
- Reporting: Provide monthly project updates covering technical progress and financial performance.
- Scope and Risk Control: Evaluate and approve scope, budget, or timeline changes, managing risks and profitability.
- Issue Resolution: Identify and resolve problems to keep projects on track.
- Contractor Oversight: Manage external contractors to maintain quality and timelines.
- Team Development: Lead and mentor your project team to ensure successful, on-budget completion.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Work with internal teams (Design, Engineering, Procurement) to secure resources and expertise.
- Safety & Compliance: Ensure projects meet the highest safety and regulatory standards, including nuclear sector requirements.
- Financial Control: Drive profitability by managing budgets, forecasts, and project costs.
Qualifications
About You
We're looking for a results-driven professional who thrives under pressure and excels at managing complex, high-stakes projects. You'll need:
- Degree/HND qualification or equivalent relevant experience.
- Strong engineering background (mechanical, electrical, or software).
- Proven project management experience, delivering large-scale, high-value industrial projects.
- Experience in nuclear environments, ensuring compliance with strict safety and regulatory standards.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills - capable of managing demanding, high-profile clients.
- Financial acumen and IT proficiency, including ERP systems like SAP.
- Strong leadership skills, with a history of coordinating multi-disciplinary teams.
- Safety and compliance knowledge, ideally within crane or heavy engineering environments.
- Willingness to travel regionally and nationwide, with overnight stays as needed.
- Ability to balance strategic oversight with hands-on project delivery.
