Job overview

The Capital Projects Team has an opportunity for a 12 Months Secondment Capital Projects Manager to support the Principal Capital Projects Manager to deliver a diverse range of complex and technical projects across the London Estate. The successful candidate will have line management responsibility and manage capital, site infrastructure, repair, upgrade projects, refurbishments within clinical and non-clinical environment.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be qualified and experienced in relevant field (refer to Person Specification for details) and have a passion to be involved in stakeholder engagement, design development and environmental improvement including an interest in sustainability within the field; they will be a leader in their field with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to convey complex and technical messages to non-technical audiences whilst fully embracing the Trust Values.

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria

  • Educated to Degree level in relevant Building Services, Architecture or Construction Related Field
  • HND in Building Services, Building Architecture, Construction or similar related discipline.
  • PRINCE2 Practitioner or equivalent.
  • Microsoft Project proficient

Desirable criteria

  • Dip project management
  • Chartered Surveyor or Engineer or working towards Charteredship
  • Membership of a recognised professional body.

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Extensive experience in Capital Projects Management
  • Expertise and experience in managing multiple complex projects simultaneously with multiple clients.
  • Effective financial control
  • Project planning and management
  • Extensive experience in the design, construction and project management of major building projects.
  • Experience writing refurbishment specifications and contract documentation.
  • Experience analysing competitive tenders.
  • Experience of financial, budgetary and resource management.
  • Experience of implementing organisational change.

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of working within NHS Capital & Estates
  • Experience of working within Mental Health Environments
  • CAD Proficient

Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria

  • An in-depth knowledge of building techniques, procurement routes, contract management, design processes and major programmes of work.
  • Excellent financial management skills in relation to the delivery of Capital Projects.
  • An in-depth understanding of the physical healthcare environment as reflected in relevant policies and procedures (e.g. HTM and HBN).
  • Knowledge of Building Contracts (NEC & JCT).
  • Knowledge of building and engineering services and general construction design.
  • Working knowledge of CDM and H&S regulations

Desirable criteria

  • Contract Law (construction)
  • Familiarity with mechanical and electrical systems
  • Understanding of the needs of mental health services.
  • Trained in Asbestos "Duty to Manage"

Personal Qualities

Essential criteria

  • Clean Driving licence.
  • General good health and fitness to meet the demands of the role.
  • Excellent Verbal and Written skills
  • Ability to think strategically
  • Ability to manage client meetings involving all Project Stakeholders.
  • Ability to meet strict time, cost and quality criteria.
  • Managing design teams.
