We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Project Manager to join our team in Norfolk. The Norfolk Broads are an area of natural beauty for the people that live there and for many who holiday there every year. BAM are currently in the early phase of a 8-10 year programme of work replacing the current pumping stations. The existing pumping stations that pump water off the broads into the local river network are in the region of 50 years old and have come to the end of their life. Across the river catchments of the Yare, Bure, Lower Waveney & Upper Thurne there are a total of 50 pumping stations that require replacement.

Across all of these schemes BAM provide ECI support to our Client along with their chosen design consultant. Currently BAM are on site constructing the first scheme, formed of two 1.2m diameter Archimedes screw pumps and circa £5m in value. We are in the final stages of agreeing a construction contract for the next phase consisting of thirteen pumping stations across the Upper Thurne catchment area, providing three years of work in this catchment. This phase of the scheme will be valued at circa £40-50m over three years. The lower Waveney catchment has progressed through the Outline Design phase supporting the clients funding application into the detailed design phase. The Yare catchment is in its outline business case phase and the Bure will start the same phase in the coming months.

Your mission

As an experienced Project Manager working out of our Norwich office and at the sites as required you will be joining our team to oversee the framework in its entirety. Leading the existing team and developing / expanding it to grow as the work load increases over the coming years. You will:

  • Ensure that BAM comply with our NEC4 contract in both ESE and ECC phases
  • Ensure internal reporting timescales, process and procedures are met
  • Employ the staff required to grow the team with the increasing workload
  • Lead the development of future contracts ensuring the best position for all parties is achieved.
  • Attend regular progress, design, supply chain partner meetings as required by the contract.
  • Develop the long term look ahead programme of works reporting on the commercial position back to the business to support its forecast turnover and return.
  • Nurture, develop and grow our relationship with the client using our key account strategy.
  • Lead the bid/pricing team at each stage of each contract enabling BAM to move forward into the next phase in a position that is beneficial to both parties.

Who are we looking for?

  • Experience working with the Environment Agency or Internal Drainage Board would be an advantage.
  • Understanding and experience of mechanical, electrical & civil engineering.
  • NEC4 approved Project Manager accreditation is preferred.
  • Some understanding of MEICA schemes would be beneficial.
  • Detailed understanding of the NEC4 form of contract.
  • Experienced in leading a medium sized team - circa 20-30 people.
  • Experience of early contractor involvement phases followed by construction phases of schemes. Taking projects through their entire lifecycle.
  • Design development knowledge.
  • In depth understanding of HSEW.
  • Price development experience.
  • Bid management experience.
  • Commercial reporting experience.
