Role description:
We seek an ambitious and respected Project Director to join our UK Resilience Business Area:
- To lead the Major Projects pillar of our Programme Leadership & Management (PL&M) team
- With strong experience in major project and programme delivery
- Who is passionate about working across Arcadis' Resilience UK business including the water, energy and environment sectors
- To develop and embed best practice for the delivery of major programmes and projects
This is a rare and exciting opportunity to join the PL&M team, a growing and pivotal function within Arcadis and comprising 3 pillars of excellence:
- Programme leadership and execution
- Programme Controls Digital PMO
- Major projects
You will support the Global Project and Program Management Service Director for Resilience who leads the PL&M Team and work alongside the other pillar leads. You will be assigned a team of consultants aligned to your area of expertise and for whom you will be responsible for developing their careers.
Within this role you will aim to achieve the highest quality outcomes for our clients, liaising with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. You will be responsible for delivering Client programmes and projects in line with budgetary, compliance, regulatory and planning controls, and have deep technical knowledge and broad business experience.
Role accountabilities:
- Support the PL&M team in the delivery of its strategic goals in relation to capability, growth and commercial targets
- Lead major, complex construction projects with diverse teams and stakeholders
- Provide clear guidance for mega project delivery with repeatable processes
- Manage commissions to quality standards and commercial expectations
- Implement robust risk management practices for all commissions
- Demonstrate leadership in sustainability, health, and safety
- Develop strong client relationships and cross-functional team support
- Identify and act upon Business Development opportunities with existing and new clients, including cross-selling opportunities within and outside of the PL&M team
- Lead proposal development and bidding
- Share knowledge and best practices internally and externally
- Mentor and manage a team for project success and continuous improvement
- Interface with Resilience Global Business Area for global best practice and digital integration
- Provide technical expertise and advice for successful major project delivery
- Manage senior client and stakeholder relationships for positive outcomes
Required Skills:
- Extensive Major Project delivery experience in construction, infrastructure, and management consultancy
- Proficient in delivering projects with Transformational Change elements
- Strong expertise in management consultancy tools, strategic thinking, and leadership
- Effective at complex problem-solving, strategic planning, and analytical thinking
- Ability to work independently, lead teams, and manage ambiguity with resilience and calmness
- Excellent communication skills for conveying complex scenarios and developing compelling narratives
- High emotional intelligence, collaborative relationship management, and insightful analysis
Qualifications & Experience:
- Relevant bachelor's degree or equivalent
- Relevant professional qualification or chartered status
- Practitioner Level of Managing Successful Programmes (MSP) - desirable
- Extensive complex, multi-disciplinary Programme experience
- Experience or awareness of leading Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects and Development Consent Order process
- Experience and knowledge of contract management e.g. NEC and supporting team members who have contract management accountabilities
- Proven track record for delivery
- Demonstrable client engagement at senior levels
- Experienced in a client management role - able to manage the account in terms of 'live' Programmes while seeking new opportunities
- Commercial experience and acumen are essential along with a proven track record of winning and retaining new clients
- Line Management experience in a comparable consultancy business
- Highly motivated with excellent industry network
