The Ferrovial BAM Joint Venture has a successful history of delivering critical infrastructure for the UK on time and to budget together in joint venture partnership. They first worked together in 2010 as BFK, delivering three Crossrail contracts, including the longest stretch of tunnelling works between Royal Oak and Farringdon and Farringdon Station, the first central station to be completed on the Elizabeth Line. More recently they have successfully delivered the Silvertown Tunnel project together in East London and have been delivering excellence at each stage of HS2, such as Fusion JV for the Enabling Works packages, EKFB for the central Main Works Contract and now delivering the track infrastructure across the entire HS2 route.

We are now recruiting for a Project Controls Manager to join the HS2 Track infrastructure project at the initial design phase which will run concurrently with the completion of main works contracts, that are now at their peak. The team will be ready to mobilise as soon as the civil works are complete and will operate under a collaborative Rail Systems Alliance structure, designed to manage interfaces and resolve any program conflicts. The members will work together on design, access, resources, and logistics to achieve shared goals for cost and schedule.

Your team

  • Candidates will be based in London and may be required at times to travel to Birmingham.
  • Elements of hybrid/flexible working are also supported.

Making Possible

As Project Controls Manager, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Ensuring all weekly & monthly reports are prepared, validated, and submitted to suit both internal and external reporting requirements
  • Ensure that project control processes are consistently applied across the project and ensuring overall integration of performance information
  • Manage governance to ensure robust cost and schedule performance
  • Responsible for undertaking Earned Value Analysis and reporting
  • Establish and agree Key Performance Indicators with the Contractor and how these will be monitored
  • Support and advise on the definition of Project Controls, procedures and standards
  • Support the development of requirements for specific resource-loaded schedules
  • Work closely with the Project Manager, Planning Manager and Commercial Manager to maximise the potential of the project
  • Coach/support others who will need to feed into Project Reporting
  • Identify and implement best practices, procedures tools and systems for project controls
  • Manage the selection and/or development of project controls tools
  • Advising on recommended reactions to risks to facilitate effective decision-making
  • Facilitate effective working relationships and influence decision-making
  • Contribute to the preparation and delivery of training
  • Responsible for auditing Sub-Contractor Project Controls procedures as required

What do you bring to the role?

  • Successful experience as a Project Controls Manager on a large project delivery - £300m+
  • Experience of joint venture/alliance working considered beneficial (not essential)
  • An experienced user of the relevant Programme tools and techniques such as Contruent, Primavera, Deltek Cobra, EcoSys etc.
  • Experience in the implementation of Earned Value Management based Project Control systems, in accordance with relevant national standards
  • Experience in working on NEC 3 or 4 projects
  • Practical ability to utilise critical project management concepts (e.g. EVM, project planning, risk analysis, configuration management)
  • Computer literate & experienced in Microsoft Office applications
  • Successful experience in Civil Engineering in project/commercial management
  • Proven skills in planning software, principally P6, with the ability to work in a P6 Enterprise environment

The following are desirable requirements:

  • Degree in Civil Engineering or related qualification or NVQ equivalent level
  • Professionally qualified to Chartered Engineer or equivalent level
  • Knowledge of basic business strategy and finances
