Programme Manager - Sustainability

This job is brought to you by Jobs/Redefined, the UK's leading over-50s age inclusive jobs board.

B&M is a fast-moving, high-growth retailer with a nationwide footprint and a strong culture centred on doing the right thing. As the business continues to scale, sustainability plays a central role in ensuring responsible operations, compliance, and long-term growth. This creates an environment where sustainability is embedded into everyday decision-making and business strategy.

We are seeking a proactive Sustainability Programme Manager to lead environmental compliance and ESG delivery across the organisation. This hands-on role focuses on shaping, governing, and executing sustainability initiatives, from packaging and recycling to carbon reduction and regulatory requirements. The position requires an agile, collaborative individual who can work with senior leaders to turn sustainability goals into practical, scalable programmes.

The key responsibilities of this role are:

  • Lead group-wide sustainability and ESG programmes, ensuring delivery against objectives and regulatory requirements (e.g., SECR, TCFD, Plastic Packaging Tax).
  • Design and continuously improve environmental compliance frameworks (WEEE, batteries, packaging waste, waste duty of care).
  • Develop robust systems to collect, audit, and report environmental data (emissions, waste, packaging).
  • Embed consistent sustainability practices across stores, distribution centres, and head office operations.
  • Partner cross-functionally to deliver ESG and Net Zero initiatives, including decarbonisation, supplier engagement, and waste reduction.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Proven experience leading programmes or complex projects within sustainability, ESG or environmental compliance
  • Strong knowledge of UK environmental legislation and reporting requirements (e.g. WEEE, Plastic Packaging Tax, SECR, ESOS)
  • Experience designing and managing auditable processes and environmental data-collection frameworks
  • Strong programme and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally and influence at all levels
  • Knowledge of ESG frameworks such as GRI, CDP or SAS and experience supporting Net Zero, decarbonisation or circularity programmes
