Programme Manager - Integrated Product Team

We are seeking a capable and detail-oriented Programme Manager to oversee the delivery of complex electro-mechanical projects with significant software, firmware and mechanical components. This role requires a professional with significant personal drive who can effectively integrate into an established team, lead engineers, and manage the commercial and product-focused aspects of the projects. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical project management skills, with a proven track record in delivering complex projects.

Key Responsibilities:

Cross-Functional Coordination and Communication:

  • Working closely with the product team lead define and implement a communication and interaction plan that ensures effective coordination between engineering teams, product managers, and other stakeholders.
  • Working from the core product ensure that all specifications are locked and met, project risks are effectively highlighted and mitigated, and that there is alignment between hardware, mechanical, software, manufacturing, and commercial teams. This involves regular status updates, facilitating meetings, and ensuring that all stakeholders are informed and engaged throughout the project lifecycle.

Comprehensive Project Planning and Risk Management:

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive project plans that cover all phases of the projects, incorporating robust risk and schedule management.
  • These plans should integrate the needs and activities of multiple business units, ensuring seamless collaboration across teams. The framework should include detailed project schedules, identifying and mitigating risks, and adjusting priorities as necessary to ensure timely and efficient project execution. This provides clear visibility into project progress and potential issues, enabling proactive management and resolution of risks and delays.

Product Delivery and Transition Activities:

  • Oversee the delivery of products and manage the transition activities to manufacturing and supporting service delivery.
  • Ensure that products are delivered on time and meet all quality and performance standards. Coordinate the transition to service and production, including handover to operational teams, training, and support setup. This involves detailed planning and execution to ensure a smooth transition with minimal disruption to ongoing operations.

Manage Multiple Project Phases:

  • Oversee the completion of various project phases, coordinating across the team to resolve residual technical and quality issues, with a clear focus on timelines for subsequent phases.

Technical Understanding:

  • Work closely with engineering teams to cut through technical challenges, helping prioritise and solve complex issues.

Commercial and Product Focus:

  • Maintain a strategic view of the projects to ensure that time-to-market objectives are achieved and that the products meet commercial goals.

Support Structure:

  • Work with supporting project managers to ensure the smooth governance of the projects and that both high-level leadership and day-to-day operational needs are met.

Budget & Resource Management:

  • Oversee resource planning, budget management, and ensure cost-efficiency throughout the projects.

Collaboration with Technical Product Lead/Owner:

  • Work closely with the technical product lead/owner for the current production terminal. The Integrated Product Team (IPT) will be responsible for the maintenance and enhancement of the existing generation 1 terminal, related multi-purpose bays, and the software platform.

Execution of Work Packages and Small Projects:

  • Manage the execution of work packages and small projects that deliver bespoke customer needs or evolve the product feature set based on the agreed roadmap.

SCRUM, Sprint, and Release Planning:

  • Utilize a combination of SCRUM, sprint, and release planning, along with project management experience, to ensure efficient and effective project delivery. Ensure that demand for changes to the platform and product is captured, understood, prioritized, and agreed for delivery on a periodic basis. Resource demand and necessary financial approval for resource scale should be quantified and agreed upon, and the delivery plan should be maintained and up to date, reflecting current and future delivery scope.

Support from Scheduler and PMO:

  • The IPT will be supported by a scheduler and PMO support person to ensure details are maintained in accordance with the project and delivery governance and control standards.

Reporting Structure:

  • This role will report into the Engineering Product Delivery team but will have 'dotted line' accountability to the PMO for adherence to delivery standards, governance, and portfolio timeline.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Experience managing complex electro-mechanical product deliveries, with a balance of technical and commercial responsibilities.
  • Experience: 8+ years in project management, preferably in a related field, with experience managing multiple complex hardware, software, and firmware projects concurrently.
  • Technical Skills: Proven ability to manage complex engineering projects. Experience with the concepts of system design, execution across engineering disciplines, transfer into manufacturing, with an understanding of the relevant industry being a plus.
  • Leadership & Communication: Strong ability to manage cross-functional teams, communicate effectively with engineers, and present complex information clearly to stakeholders.
  • Project Management Tools: Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies and project portfolio management tools.
  • Certification in project management (PMP, PRINCE2, etc.) and familiarity with relevant systems.
