The National Lottery Heritage Fund, the largest funder of heritage in the UK is forging long term partnerships with towns and cities across the UK as part of a 10-year initiative to help places thrive by unlocking the potential of their heritage. The fund is designed to boost local economies and boost pride in place. By 2033, there will be 20 long-term projects which will be transforming towns, cities and landscapes using a dedicated NLHF funding pot of £200m. Leicester's Inclusive Heritage programme is one of these projects with a focus upon heritage and community cohesion. Working in partnership with the Audience Agency, Leicester City Council has secured £250k for the first stage of the programme.
Leicester's heritage is distinctive and diverse, and the programme will involve and celebrate communities in Leicester, telling their unique stories and increasing understanding, access and learning. Communities will be supported to identify what heritage means to them and to celebrate that. Working in partnership with the Audience Agency, who will be the research partner for the project, extensive consultation will take place with local stakeholders and communities during 2025 to create a longer-term plan.
Join us to coordinate and manage The National Lottery Heritage Fund Heritage Places programme in Leicester and build upon Leicester's identity as a diverse city by generating inclusive heritage interventions which are designed to support greater community cohesion and inclusion via shared events, exhibitions, and specific projects. You'll be pivotal to building relationships with multiple stakeholders in Leicester and establishing a steering group comprising both LCC and external partners. You'll lead negotiations and extensive consultation with stakeholders and community groups to develop and establish the 'Inclusive Heritage' programme and drive all programme activity to meet the required outcomes and benefits. You'll work with The Audience Agency, the research partner for this programme.
This is a part-time, fixed term post for 24 months, working 18.5 hours per week. The working days can be agreed however you'll be required to be available for meetings with key stakeholders. You'll have the flexibility to work some days in the office and some days at home.
What you'll be doing
You'll manage The National Lottery Heritage Fund Heritage Places Programme through implementation, monitoring and evaluation. You'll work collaboratively with a diverse group of stakeholders, internal leaders and specialists, stakeholders, and community groups. Establishing and managing the Heritage Places Steering Group, the partnership with the Audience Agency, stakeholder engagement and communication arrangements for the programme, you'll ensure there is robust management and regular reporting of progress, benefits, risks, issues, and dependencies. You'll produce high quality written documents including presentations and reports to support the project. Furthermore, you'll manage and monitor the National Lottery Heritage Fund grant budget.
What you'll need
You'll have substantial experience in heritage/ community funding. Well versed in managing funded projects and maintaining relationships, you'll have strong project management and financial management experience. You'll have strong political awareness, excellent interpersonal and communication skills to be able to effectively manage stakeholder relationships. Proactive and solutions-oriented, you'll have exceptional organisational and time management skills. Passionate and dedicated, you'll be committed to developing heritage with communities in Leicester.
