Job overview
The post holder will lead the delivery of Maudsley Learning's high quality mental health training and education programs and have significant influence in the leadership, performance management, drive for team innovation and operational responsibilities in the Service Delivery Team.
The role will focus on assisting the senior leadership team with the strategic development and operational delivery of all SDT functions and responsibilities. In addition, the post holder will be responsible for project management of Maudsley Learning's high quality mental health training and education programs plus PMO management and other non training projects to support the wider business.
Main duties of the job
The main duties of the post holder will be to support the Service Delivery Lead achieving SDT's annual key objectives and to adopt a role of leadership, guidance mentoring with all Programme Managers and Administrators. In addition, the post holder take a proactive approach to develop internal and external partnerships to:
- Lead on delivery of small- and large-scale training programmes working with and key internal and external stakeholders. Plus PMO management and other non training projects. Managing the initiation, development, delivery, closure and administration of this training
- Establish and maintain efficient functional operation across customer services management, performance and quality management, communications management, programme platform management and data management and reporting systems and processes;
- Oversee the quality assurance and quality improvement of the initiation, development, delivery, closure and administration of training programmes whilst working closely with internal workstreams and all external and partner stakeholders;
- Contribute, challenge and innovate the design, development and delivery of existing and, where necessary, new educational programs;
- Oversee line management responsibilities for direct reports and contribute to their development and learning;

South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLaM) provide the widest range of NHS mental health services in the UK as well as substance misuse services for people who are addicted to drugs and alcohol. We work closely with the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience (IoPPN), King's College London and are part of King's Health Partners Academic Health Sciences Centre. There are very few organisations in the world that have such wide-ranging capabilities working with mental illness. Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Five key functional, strategic and operational responsibilities are at the heart of this role at the time of appointment which include the enhancement and ongoing maintenance of:
- excellent customer services management across all externally facing programmes and internally facing workstreams within Maudsley Learning;
- performance and quality management metrics and outcomes associated with programmes we deliver and the way SDT delivers them;
- communications management relating to programme website pages, emails via Maudsley Learning's centralised email system, telephone communications relating to all training programmes, the development of rule-based or artificial intelligent chatbots to assist with the sutomation of frequent communications and the regular use of SMS communications associated with all training programmes;
- the Monday.Com programme management platform used to project manage every training programme; and
- data management and reporting systems and processes to collect, collate, analyse and report on training programme metrics and outcomes.
As a member of the Maudsley Learning Service and Delivery Team (SDT), the post holder will also be responsible for the initiation, development, delivery, closure and administration of some training programmes and will work closely with all external and partner stakeholders as well as all ML's in-house workstreams. A high degree of collaboration and engagement with the clinical educators and experts from various mental health disciplines within South London & Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust as well as other external partners is also required.
Preparing for and supporting the delivery of training programs both digitally and, where necessary, face to face. The post holder will also be responsible for conducting financial analysis, data analysis, report writing and costings of training interventions, including the managememt of payments for clinical educators and Subject Matter Experts. The post holder will also support the marketing, sales and administration providing relevant information about training programmes.
This role involves being part of a dynamic and innovative team that strives to improve healthcare and people's mental health through the delivery and programme management of high-quality training programmes. Our wider multi-disciplinary ML team includes psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses and management professionals, with ambitions to grow Maudsley Learning's work and impact.
Key Responsibilities:
Project and PMO Management
- Lead on often complex projects, ensuring that targets and deadlines are met. Overseeing initiation, development, delivery and closure of projects; utilising robust management systems, reporting structures and project plans to ensure timely delivery, suggesting changes where needed.
- Work with key internal stakeholders and external Maudsley Learning trainers to lead the oranisation and delivery of training programs.
- Take lead responsibility for development and implementation of new technologies to enhance the performance of the SDT PMO (e.g. SMS functionality, chatbots, Artificial Intelligence & customer features)
- Liaise with and, where necessary, coordinate the delivery of all internal and external evaluation processes;
- Assist with and influence the administration needs or all curricula development;
- Oversee the monitoring of risk and risk mitigation to all training programmes and associated activities;
- Work with the Sales & Marketing teams to ensure that clients and trainees needs are met through the delivery of training.
- Oversee and develop the operational effectiveness, efficient day-to-day use of and training associated with the ML programme management platform Monday.Com
- Work with all ML teams to ensure that clients' and trainees' needs are met through the delivery of training;
- Provide leadership to and work with the all members of the Steering Groups and Programme and Quality Assurance Board to provide timely outcomes, performance management, financial analysis reports and costing for specific training programmes;
- Take responsibility for monitoring and Administering the payment of external subject matter and clinical experts;
- Take responsibility for monitoring and reporting on data relating to training programmes;
- Prepare reports that outline the delivery of training programmes and their successes and challenges;
- Support training delivery on the day to ensure the smooth running of programmes;
Strategic
- Provide logistical and administrative leadership on all aspects of SDT strategy and operational programme delivery;
- Establishing efficient, effective and responsive communication systems (whether by email, via the programme's Virtual Learning Hub, through the ML website, SMS, 'Chatbots' or other media);
- Take a lead responsibility for the monitoring, updating and reporting of comprehensive course booking activity data;
- Work with appropriate teams to ensure the ML internet and intranet booking systems remain well functioning and up to date and provide appropriate and effective information and to trouble shoot difficulties and liaise with ML marketing, Digital Learning, and external IT services if required.
- Work with the business intelligence manger to develop systems that accurately monitor project delivery and resource and financial performance, to ensure that these are maintained to the high standard required and to ensure that effective internal to team financial plans are developed and delivered. To allow the provision of timely financial analysis reports and costing for specific training programmes.
Leadership and Team work
- Plan and deliver training sessions, as appropriate, to develop the skills required to educate others in programme management and mental health procedures of the Maudsley Learning team to aid team development;
- Organise, participate in and deliver / co-deliver with the Service Delivery Lead or other senior leadership team member any training and event delivery needs;
- Actively contribute to senior internal leadership meetings and external business development meetings and wider ML team meetings to support operations, service planning, strategic development and new developments at the request of the Service Delivery Lead;
- Plan, refine, optimise and deliver a high standard of customer care that is representative of the service and the overall objectives of the organisation;
- Undertake any ad hoc responsibilities associated with the delivery of ML training programme and SDT team development;
- Line management responsibilities for a number of direct reports (at differing Agenda for Change grade and as outlined in the organisational chart or subsequent charts) and take a lead on or contribute to their recruitment, supervision, appraisal, performance management, disciplinary action whebn required as well as individual and strategic team development, knowledge sharing and expertise in programme management and leadership.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Masters Level qualification or equivalent training and / or experience.
- Internationally recognised degree based or equivalently recognised Project Management qualification
Desirable criteria
- Attainment of or progression to a Postgraduate qualification in Business Management or Programme Management e.g. MBA
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience and evidence of leadership responsibilities in a busy training and / or programme management environment.
- Experience and ebidence of managing multiple and concurrent healthcare education and / or training programmes at national or regional level
- Experience of working to tight and competing deadlines
- Experience of managing complex administrative and financial processes
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working in a mental health education team.
- Experience of contributing to the development and management of a Project Management Office
Knowledge & Skills
Essential criteria
- Project Management competencies, including well developed planning and organisational skills and the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Ability to develop strong relationships with Executives, clinicians and other senior managers and teams.
- Strong financial management and strategic analysis skills
- Highly proficient and knowledge using Microsoft Office 365 and wider business applications
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of recent developments and trends in mental health education training.
