Some key focus areas for a Product Manager will be:
Leadership:
- To provide leadership, functional management and support of their delivery "train".
- To provide line management of a group of Product Owners (not necessarily aligned to their delivery train). This includes performance management and general pastoral care.
- To support the evolution of Group Technology Services function by continuously reviewing and improving delivery methods and operating structures, and supporting adoption across the Change community.
Change:
- Engage with stakeholders to agree improvements to products and services that deliver the maximum possible value.
- Work with stakeholders and Change Management on idea generation.
- Accountable for the delivery of change by your train on schedule, to budget and meeting agreed scope and quality criteria, including compliance.
Production Support:
- Accountable for the production service of the applications within the remit of the delivery train.
- Each of these areas should be managed, prioritised and built into roadmaps and capacity plans in order to meet service levels and targets.
- Work with business stakeholders to get ready for 'live' and define what 'live' looks like.
- Implement and manage success metrics for the product whilst taking responsibility for the entire product lifecycle.
Management / Product Management:
- Work together with the Product Owners to craft a product delivery roadmap and execute this against its objectives.
- Accountable for executing the planning and prioritisation of train delivery (in collaboration with Business Owners and Sponsors) that balances business value, service stability, and effective delivery.
- Build relationships with users to understand needs and challenges. Disseminate this to the delivery team.
Qualifications
As a Product Manager you would be expected you to:
- Demonstrate excellent strategic ability with a pragmatic approach.
- Have experience of presenting business cases and other relevant content at C-suite level.
- Have gained a strong understanding of all elements of the entire product management process.
- Be an experienced people manager with a track record of coaching and supporting colleagues to help them fulfil their potential.
