Job Description

Your Team:

As the Product Director (Risk) at Teya, you will play a crucial role in leading the strategic development and execution of our risk management functions. This position requires a product-focused mindset, where you'll drive the design and delivery of risk-related initiatives while ensuring that they are fully integrated into our broader product development lifecycle. Your role will span across product strategy, risk mitigation, and regulatory compliance, helping to safeguard Teya's operations while enhancing the overall customer experience.

On a regular day as Product Director (Risk), you will:

  • Stakeholder Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with internal teams, ensuring risk considerations are embedded in the product development process, while balancing regulatory compliance and business needs.
  • Performance Management: Lead your team in driving risk management performance, establishing key KPIs, and mentoring team members to achieve their goals while ensuring that standards are met across the board.
  • Product Risk Strategy: Take ownership of the product risk strategy, defining the vision for how risk management practices can be seamlessly integrated into the development and operational aspects of Teya's products.
  • Process & System Optimization: Identify opportunities for process improvements and system automations, working closely with product and second-line teams to scope and implement risk-related changes that will optimize the overall workflow.
  • Reporting: Regularly produce reports on the state of risk management, highlighting any risks and performance against KPIs, and providing clear communication to senior management on areas of improvement.
  • Training & Education: Ensure that your team is continuously developing by fostering a culture of learning, providing the resources necessary for team members to expand their expertise in both risk management and product development.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Stay ahead of regulatory changes and market trends, ensuring that Teya's products remain compliant with evolving laws and regulations, particularly within the UK and EU.
  • Collaborative Communication: Lead cross-functional collaboration, bringing together product, engineering, and risk teams to align on goals and deliver successful, compliant products that meet business needs.

Qualifications

Your Story:

  • 8+ years of experience in operational risk management, with several years in leadership roles overseeing areas such as onboarding, ongoing monitoring, and underwriting.
  • Proven experience in integrating risk management practices within product teams, with a solid understanding of product development lifecycles.
  • Hands-on experience building and scaling first-line operational risk departments within a product-focused environment.
  • Strong knowledge of the card acquiring, credit, and business banking space, with expertise in AML and credit regulations, particularly in the UK and EU.
  • A data-driven mindset with excellent problem-solving and communication skills, able to translate risk insights into actionable product decisions.
  • Strong organizational skills and a proactive approach to managing risk, with the ability to motivate both yourself and your team in a fast-paced environment.
