As part of the Transport UK Group, West Midlands Trains delivers around 1,300 train journeys a day, for more than 60 million passengers a year, across our two brands - West Midlands Railway and London Northwestern Railway.

We are committed to delivering a safe and reliable train service, by investing in our fleet of trains, stations and employees. As part of this investment we are looking to recruit a Product Development Manager, on a full time permanent basis based in Birmingham.

What does the job involve?

  • Income Analysis - An understanding of the London Northwestern Railway & West Midlands Railway product propositions, supporting the proviision of insight from analysis of passenger income and demand
  • Pricing Modelling - Supporting pricing strategy by modelling pricing scenarios, forecasting the projected and determining the actual impact on revenue and volume
  • Timetable Modelling - Assist the development of the operating timetable from a commercial perspective
  • Support the rollout and development of PAYG Ticketing initiatives such as C-PAY for the London & South East Area (Project Oval) and Swift on Rail for the West Midlands, understanding the customer proposition and to enhance it to maximum effect for revenue and market growth
  • Work with the Property Contracts Manager to support development of Ancillary Revenue streams such as Car Parking, Property & Advertising, by providing analysis and insight from management information
  • Business Cases - assist in the development and calculation of incremental revenue streams for initiatives based on PDFH principles or other empirical evidence, e.g. Timetable changes, product/price changes, station investment.
  • Promote a commercial culture across WMT, making people understand the benefit from growing revenue at a corporate and personal level.

What skills and experience do I need to do the job?

  • A highly numerate individual with strong IT software ability in Microsoft Excel and Word among others
  • Excellent capability to grasp and solve complex issues and systems quickly.
  • Strong communication skills, being able to explain complex issues to senior management across WMT, TUK Group and beyond
  • A thorough understanding of UK passenger rail income
  • A well organised individual with the ability to employ logical processes.
  • The ability to influence and motivate people
