Balfour Beatty is seeking a experienced Procurement Manager to contribute to the Net Zero Teesside project based at our new site in Redcar, Teesside.

The role is accountable for managing the supply chain engagement and procurement activities across the Mechanical & Electrical scope of the NZT Project, including supporting the wider team.

What you'll be doing

As Procurement Manager you have the following responsibilities:

  • To support the delivery of a supply chain / Procurement strategy, Core Operational Excellence
  • (Subcontractor Excellence and Supplier Relationship Management, Supply Chain Development and
  • Performance Measurement), Delivery of Customer Priorities, Feedback, Learning and Continuous Improvement through;
    • Creating a market leading supply chain strategy for the NZT Project and Net Zero Pipeline
    • Ensuring our supply chain has the capability and capacity to meet NZT and Net Zero Pipeline future needs. Taking the strategic overview of programme level requirements to develop new supply chains and build early collaboration with suppliers to maximise innovation and value.
    • Leading and shaping the procurement and supply chain management plans and reporting processes
    • Working with the Commercial team to ensure all internal governance approval is in place
    • Liaise with project team to understand project requirements and develop schedules into project procurement plans
    • Development of package specific sourcing plans, RFQs, evaluation of supplier responses, negotiations with suppliers, order placement and contract management
    • Identify demand and capacity issues within the supply chain and the development of risk mitigation strategies
    • Compile performance management information relating to suppliers to ensure continuous improvement within the supply chain
    • Manage procurement relationships with relevant internal and external stakeholders
    • Keep abreast of market developments, demand trends and risks, and ensure that client's requirements are understood
    • Focus on exceeding minimum service expectations by delivering an agile, value adding service with a deep understanding of customer requirements, technical competence, functional knowledge and process efficiency
    • Establish performance led, long term supplier relationships focusing on value for money, service & product quality and continuous improvement to drive competitive advantage for the client.
    • Internal and external stakeholder management and working within a multi-disciplinary team/teams
    • Lead, develop and coach individuals to build high performing teams
    • Demonstrate collaborative working practices, promote continuous improvement and acting in a spirit of mutual trust and cooperation

Who we're looking for

The following qualities / experience are essential:

  • Extensive experience in a Procurement Management role
  • Appropriate style of people management that will deliver objectives while taking into account the skills, personalities and needs of employees.
  • Pragmatic yet disciplined approach to process compliance
  • Highly results orientated (proven track record of exceeding targets)
  • Problem solving skills, ability to use own initiative to identify areas of improvement & propose solutions.
  • Knowledge of procurement ERP and e-tendering systems (e.g. Oracle, Jaggaer or similar)
  • Experience of Subcontract Procurement
  • Proven track record of strategic sourcing, leading complex sourcing activities and supplier integration into project teams
  • Supply Chain Management Experience
  • Proven track record in negotiation
  • Presentation skills

The following qualities / experience are desirable:

  • CIPS / MCIPS qualification or degree or similar equivalent
