Role Responsibility
- Supporting the Senior Procurement Manager to deliver the procurement and supply chain objectives
- Manage relationships with all stakeholders involved in the procurement process ensuring stakeholders are dealt with in a professional, open and collaborative way
- Coordinate with all stakeholders including design, delivery, commercial, HSW, quality, environment and planning functions to ensure the projects requirements are reflected in the procurement process for every procurement
- Control and manage every procurement in a timely way to ensure continuity of the works and programme
- Work to and update progress in the procurement schedule and input into the reporting of procurement activity as required by project controls requirements
- Develop and issue all enquiries ensuring they include robust tender documentation and clarity of projects requirements that seek to obtain value for money at all times
- Ensure that accurate and logical tender evaluations are produced to demonstrate value for money
- Conduct supplier meetings and negotiations for all packages to ensure value for money for the project
- Produce recommendations for internal and Employer approval, prior to placing orders
- Prepare and issue all subcontracts
- Managing staff
- Contribute to developing individuals within the procurement team providing tailored training as appropriate
- Ensure appropriate training and professional development for yourself
- Work with the supply chain manager to facilitate supply chain performance reviews and improve
- Understand the Client and Joint Venture Partners' Environment and Sustainability Policies, Processes and statutory requirements as they affect the company's operations and ensure that the requirements, as applicable within their discipline, are implemented on the project.
The Ideal Candidate
Essential:
- Previous experience as Procurement Manager on a major project, including managing direct staff
- Experience of working on infrastructure projects
- Working knowledge and application of NEC contract
- Demonstrable negotiating skills and securing best value outcomes
Desirable:
- Working knowledge with Electronic Procurement Systems
- Excellent communicator and influencer with ability to build effective relationships
- Experience of working on major civil engineering or rail projects
- Experience of working with Network Rail
- Desirable to be working towards MCIPS
- Practical approach, logical thought process and a methodical way of working
- Extensive knowledge of office management systems including document control.
- Proficient in technical minute taking at contractual meetings and able to demonstrate the ability to collate information, prepare reports, clearly record contractual commitments, write persuasive recommendations and clearly communicate.
- Proficient in drafting effective contractual correspondence
- Proven negotiating and team-working skills
- Strong analytical skills
- Demonstrable legal, contractual and construction knowledge and experience
- Confidence and ability to assert influence
- Ability to maintain a measured approach in a challenging and dynamic environment
About the Company
The role will work on the HS2 project. HS2 is the UK's new high speed rail network. It will be a catalyst for economic growth across Britain, freeing up space on the existing railways and connecting 8 out of the UK's 10 biggest cities with fast, reliable and frequent high speed services
The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 London Tunnels Contract. Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
