About the Role

Newstaff Employment Services is recruiting for an experienced Probate Manager to join a well-established firm based in St Albans, Hertfordshire.

This role involves managing a varied caseload of probate and estate administrations, including taxable and non-taxable estates. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of probate processes and inheritance tax regulations.

Location: St Albans, Hertfordshire
Salary: £55,000 - £70,000 per annum + excellent benefits package
Hours: Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week (flexi-time available)
Contract Type: Permanent

Key Responsibilities

• Engaging with Partners/Directors and clients via telephone, email, and face-to-face meetings to scope and progress cases.
• Preparing correspondence to request asset and liability valuations.
• Providing regular updates to executors on case progress.
• Preparing relevant Inheritance Tax forms, including understanding nil rate bands and transferable nil rate bands.
• Handling probate applications and liaising with HMRC, HMCTS, and third parties.
• Advising executors on asset collection, liability payments, and estate distribution.
• Maintaining and preparing estate accounts.
• Preparing estate tax returns, beneficiary statements (R185), and 60-Day UK Property CGT returns, where applicable.

Skills & Experience Required

• Proven experience in probate and estate administration.
• Strong understanding of Inheritance Tax allowances and reliefs (business and agricultural relief desirable but not essential).
• Excellent client engagement skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to work independently while managing multiple cases efficiently.
• Attention to detail with strong analytical skills.

IT Systems Used

• Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.
• CCH Practice Management System.
• Various digital accounts and applications.

Qualifications & Education

• CTA and/or STEP qualified (or a strong desire to work towards a STEP qualification).
