A Snapshot of your day
As a Senior Principal Engineer, you will technically supervise a team of junior and experienced engineers to design, test and deploy complex protection solutions for UK transmission operator substations, offshore renewables customers design and develop new solutions to cater for our future battery storage and hydrogen production solutions.
You will report to the Head of Control and Protection and delivery projects across the UK and Ireland.

Your responsibilities
• Leading the protection team in the development of new solutions for our customers using innovate new technology and methodology.
• Production and verification of associated protection and control schematics for 13.9kV up to 400kV.
• Production and verification of protection and control designs for LVAC, LVDC and UPS equipment.
• Production and verification of C.T./V.T. including cable sizing calculations, relay configurations and associated documentation, and engineering and test specifications for new and existing solutions.
• Leading internal and external design reviews for technical input.
• Production and verification of protection Compliance Matrices, Design Intent Documents, Equipment Technical Specifications and Functional Design Specifications.
• Production and verification of design risk assessments for all design solutions. Ensure as part of the process all design risks and HAZIDS are identified and controlled and ensuring full compliance with current Health and Safety legislation.
• Overseeing and consistency by carrying out functional testing during the Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) phase with the client.
• Supporting the team with Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) and specialist commissioning assistance when required.
• Mentoring new members of the engineering department.
• Ensuring that consistency of design is maintained on each contract by adherence to processes and procedures.
• Attends Technical meetings with the client as and when required.
Your skills and qualifications
• University degree in electrical engineering or other relevant qualification
• Extensive knowledge of control and protection engineering with a variety of power industry customers
• Good working knowledge of grid connection requirements, constraints, and technologies
• Excellent knowledge of technology, product roadmap and value engineering.
• Good working knowledge of client approval processes including type registration, ENA and equipment approval.
• Working knowledge of communication equipment and protocols commonly used in substation engineering
• Fluent English mandatory (spoken and written)
• Excellent team skills, initiative, and customer orientation
