Principal Project Manager

Following our continued success in securing new and interesting projects with the government, we have an exciting opportunity for a Principal Project Manager with a background in public sector and central government projects.
Reporting directly to our Director for Project Management, you will be responsible for managing projects of national importance working closely with our client, stakeholders and colleagues from other Tetra Tech disciplines.
This role can be based from any of our midlands, or northern, offices.
The role
We are seeking a passionate, high performing Principal / Associate who can demonstrate a flexible skillset:
- A leader with the ability to empower and inspire others to deliver successful outcomes
- A collaborative team manager who will work with the whole project team to develop objectives and agree ways of working
- Experienced in managing NEC 3/4 contracts ensuring compliance with the terms of the contract
- Capable of managing design teams and the design process against agreed delivery timescales
- Monitors progress against the schedule, managing resources against the baseline and identifies variances that require action
- Monitors financial performance throughout the project / programme and prepares reports for stakeholders
- Preparation of the Risk Management plan and process to identify threats and opportunities, assessing the impacts to develop suitable response plans
- Manages the consistent application of quality assurance processes and standards
- Able to establish and maintain governance structures that define clear roles, responsibilities and accountabilities for governance
- Develops and disseminates a stakeholder management and communications plan to meet the objectives of the project / programme.
- Establish and manage review points, which will inform governance and provide evaluations of progress.
- Manage the change control process in line with the contract conditions.
- The ability to prepare, refine and update business cases.
- The ability to define, evaluate, track and realise the business benefits of project / programme.
About you
- Proven experience of managing projects and programmes for local / central government bodies or other significant public sector clients.
- Willingness to travel
- Chartered project Professional (APM), equivalent or working towards
- PMQ Accredited
- NEC 3/4 accredited preferably
- Suitable for security clearance, SC or DV Cleared preferably
- Strong communication skills including the ability to work with senior client representatives
- A collaborative approach including managing large technical multi-disciplinary teams and working with partnering customers
- A keen interest in developing skills in scheduling management
- Proven ability to deliver to deadlines.
- Able to work collaboratively with clients in order to deliver results.
- Professional and ethical in everything that you do.
- Able to identify and develop a phased approach to delivery, working collaboratively with the client to understand and agree the project requirements.
- Determined approach to delivery.
- Good practical application of Microsoft Software, including Project, Excel, and Word.
- The ability to prepare and implement a range of project tools including programmes, risk registers,
- Stakeholder Management Plans, Project Execution Plans, and Quality Assurance Plans.
- Driving licence essential
