What you’ll be doing:
- Managing and mentoring a small team of early careers engineers to ensure they have the skills and support required to deliver our projects successfully
- Evaluating and assessing new technologies, both through literature review and practical experimentation and demonstration
- Designing and prototyping future combat system applications and supporting environments including state-of-the-art software architectures, semantic information modelling, and artificial intelligence/machine learning
- Designing and implementing trials of future technologies alongside existing combat systems
- Working with other engineering specialists to understand the impacts of security and safety controls on the combat system design, architecture, components, interfaces, and data
- Simulation and analysis of real-world battlespace environments
Your skills and experiences:
Essential:
- Degree level qualification (or equivalent experience) in relevant IT or STEM subject (Science / Technology / Engineering / Maths)
- Working knowledge of software engineering practices in design and development of software applications or integrated systems
- Experience in software development in one or more languages
- Experience in managing small engineering teams or projects
Desirable:
- Experience in IP network design and configuration
- Experience with agile development processes and toolsets

The Systems Engineering team:
This is an exciting opportunity to work on fast-paced programmes and projects, helping us to design, develop, integrate, manage and support combat systems for in-service and future submarines. You will be working to design, rapidly prototype and develop future combat system architectures to enhance future submarine operability and mission effectiveness. You will also be responsible for investigation and exploitation of candidate technologies for improving and enhancing the combat systems offering, ranging from horizon scanning and maturity assessment through to practical demonstration and trials within a laboratory environment or by deployment at sea. We offer relocation support packages across all Submarines roles, subject to meeting eligibility criteria.
