Are you ready to make a difference in delivering award-winning contaminated land and remediation projects? AECOM's Contaminated Land & Remediation Practice is seeking an enthusiastic and proactive Principal Consultant or, for the right candidate, an Associate Director to join our multidisciplinary Edinburgh office. This role will support our growing project portfolio and Scottish client base across various sectors, helping shape a better and more sustainable environment.

About the Role

As a key member of our Practice and Scottish team, you will:

  • Lead Diverse Projects: Take charge of contaminated land and remediation projects for both private and public sector clients, including developers, global oil & gas companies, the nuclear industry, Fortune 500 corporations, regulatory bodies, and government agencies such as SEPA, Scottish Water, and Transport for Scotland.
  • Collaborate Across Disciplines: Work alongside other AECOM business lines, contributing to multi-disciplinary design, build, and construction schemes.
  • Deliver Comprehensive Services: From desk studies and site investigations to risk assessment, remediation strategy development, and implementation, you'll deliver end-to-end solutions.
  • Grow Client Relationships: Serve as a "Trusted Advisor," maintaining and developing strong client relationships that generate repeat business.
  • Mentor and Lead: Manage and mentor project staff, fostering their development while ensuring project delivery meets the highest technical standards.

  • Possesses excellent technical and commercial acumen, with the ability to oversee projects from feasibility to completion.
  • Is skilled in managing budgets, adhering to timelines, and delivering high-quality results.
  • Demonstrates independence, leadership, and a collaborative approach to mentoring and team growth.
  • Has strong experience in contaminated land and remediation, with a proven track record of success.

  • Develop Workload and Footprint: Expand AECOM's presence and workload based out of the Edinburgh Office.
  • Focus on Business Development: Lead efforts in bids and tenders to secure new opportunities and drive growth.
  • Deliver Projects: Manage and deliver projects effectively, ensuring alignment with client expectations.
  • Foster Team Development: Enhance team skills and capacity to support overall growth.
  • Capture and Deliver Projects: Take a leading role in project acquisition and successful execution.
  • Drive Regional Growth: Build external client relationships and collaborate with internal AECOM teams in line with market strategy.
  • Client Management: Maintain strong client relationships and ensure effective communication.
  • Lead Tenders and Bids: Oversee tender and bid submissions to secure business opportunities.

Here's what we're looking for:

  • Ensuring that health and safety issues are addressed throughout the life of a project in compliance with AECOM policies and procedures.
  • Close support to our Regional Director, Technical Directors and other Associates in project delivery, work winning and maintaining high levels of client satisfaction.
  • On the job mentoring of junior staff, including supporting them to achieve chartered status.
  • Lead input to team and client meetings, being prepared to own decisions and put forward alternative ideas and concepts.
  • Prepare and oversee fee bids and proposals.
  • Provide oversight, technical leadership and verification of project deliverables.
  • Ensure rigorous adhesion to AECOMs industry leading quality assurance programme.
  • Management of sub-consultant, contractor and other supplier relationships to the benefit of project delivery

Preferred Qualifications :

For this role you will ideally hold a minimum of a strong undergraduate degree in an environmental, science or engineering based subject, be chartered with a relevant UK institution, and be able to travel within the UK to support projects.
