Role Title: Pre-Construction Commercial Manager

Business Unit: Asset Intelligence

Role Purpose:

The Pre-Construction Commercial Manager plays a key role in supporting the commercial governance, contractual assurance, and risk management of pre-construction activity across the Galliford Try portfolio. Working collaboratively with estimating, legal, operational, design, and delivery teams, the role ensures bids and early-stage projects are commercially sound, compliant, and aligned with operational delivery.

This role provides commercial leadership throughout the tender lifecycle, helping to identify, understand, and mitigate risk while supporting the preparation of competitive and high-quality submissions. The position offers flexibility, including remote working, with travel to regional offices and client meetings as required.

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Provide commercial input into bid and tender activity, supporting Bid / No-Bid decisions in line with GT governance and risk appetite
  • Review and assess contracts (including NEC, JCT, FIDIC, and bespoke forms) to identify commercial and delivery risk
  • Work closely with Legal and internal stakeholders to agree and document mitigations, clarifications, and assumptions
  • Support fee build-ups, allowances, and risk provisions alongside the estimating team
  • Ensure scope clarity, risk visibility, and commercial alignment prior to tender submission
  • Support supply chain engagement at tender stage, including commercial compliance and contract alignment
  • Provide early commercial insight to operational teams to support smooth project handover
  • Promote collaboration, good governance, ethical procurement, and continuous improvement across pre-construction activity

About You:

  • Experience in pre-construction commercial management within a Tier 1 contractor or major subcontractor environment
  • Strong working knowledge of NEC, JCT, and bespoke contract forms
  • Ability to assess and communicate commercial and contractual risk clearly
  • Confident communicator with the ability to work collaboratively across multiple disciplines
  • Organised, proactive, and comfortable working in a flexible or remote environment

Desirable

  • RICS or similar professional membership
  • Experience supporting bids in complex or regulated sectors
  • Familiarity with Galliford Try systems or similar governance frameworks
